We recently connected with Josip Pozgaj and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Josip with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from my parents. I come from the family of entrepreneurs. My dad started a successful sawmill business which fast turned into a finished product factory, that does business all over the world with clients like Dior and Jeep. And on the other side my mom started a ranch which turned out to become a resort village. Growing up in a big family, my parents couldn’t leave us at home by ourselves so we would go to work with them. And work helped me to value things in life and make me realize that hard work always pays of.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I come from a small town in the northern Croatia. Small town man with big dreams. Doesn’t really go together, yet here I am, making the dreams come true. I moved to the US when I was 19, and not knowing a single person didn’t help. But soon I found my company and Croatian families that accepted me like their own. I graduated from the New York Film Academy and since then I have been working as an actor. Besides acting, I recently got into writing and producing. With my own company JP Productions I have produced a music video for an up and coming artist LUPO and have several short films in pre-production, as well as one feature film that I wrote called LOVE UNVEILED. Love unveiled is a romantic drama with a background in crime; I would love to tell you more about it, but unfortunately, I can’t, you’ll just have to wait for it to be released in 2026. As I mentioned JP Productions, my goal is to bring the quality of old Hollywood filmmaking to Croatia.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The best advice I ever got and learned is; listen to everyone, but at the end do what you think is best. Everyone knows something you don’t. If life has thought me anything is; don’t assume you know what you think you might know. It’s better to hear it twice than wonder if you heard it at all. Besides that, I value versatility; people that do everything. A one man band. And although some of us are burned being too shy to ask for help and most of us versatile people are like that. It’s amazing what a group of people who work towards their dreams can do. There isn’t a skill that is the most important. There’s a skill that’s required to get the job done and that’s what I value. So make sure whatever your skill is to get that skill to its perfection, because at the end of the day. Best guy gets the job done.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Definitely acting. As I started to work in Hollywood, the best way to learn something is to do it, and who better to learn it from than Actor such as Chris Hemsworth, Mel Gibson, Denzel Washington and others. I’ve grown so much and I’m sure everything is pointing me towards my goals.
