Meet Jourdan Grubb

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jourdan Grubb. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jourdan below.

Hi Jourdan, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

That’s simple, I found my purpose when I became a mama. As a mom, I was drawn to making my own baby food. The labor of love that goes into preparing your child’s first foods inspired the foundation of my book, A Low-Tox Approach to Creating Wholesome Family Foods, released in October 2024. After selling my foods at local craft fairs, I decided to turn my best sellers into a cookbook.

But as I wrote the intro to the book, I realized I was passionate about reaching the root of the problem when it comes to preparing food at home. Thus, the book turned into how to create wholesome alternatives to grocery store products at home with a low-tox mindset. I wanted to show how to make food at home in a way that doesn’t compromise the quality of what you’re working so hard to prepare. The challenge isn’t just cooking at home; it’s the quality of what we utilize.

The book evolved into a guide on how to make everyday grocery store items like bread, peanut butter, jam, and chicken nuggets. It also emphasizes the importance of quality water, food, and cookware in creating wholesome meals. It even includes thoughtful insights into seasonal weeds and how they can play a role in our health!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a mama who has made a low-tox lifestyle my priority, and that journey led me to create my brand, Made By A Mama. While many recognize my brand as a micro-bakery, my true focus is helping families replace toxic household products with simple, real alternatives—often food-based and herbal. My online shop offers herbal-infused laundry liquid, tallow-based skincare, and custom products like Breast Milk Soap, allowing mamas to transform frozen milk into nourishing, personalized bars. Breast Milk Soap is one of the products I’m most proud of learning to make, and I’m honored to offer it as a service to local mamas and hopeful to expand service across the country.

Making essentials that nourish, protect, and support families in their low-tox journey is a special job. This past Mardi Gras season, I introduced custom sourdough King Cakes made with organic ingredients and natural colorants like purple sweet potato and turmeric—the response was incredible! Coming in March, I’ll launch my second round of Herbal-Infused Cold Process Soap Bars—a perfect low-tox swap for the whole family.

Beyond my handmade products, I released my book, A Low-Tox Approach to Creating Wholesome Family Foods, in October 2024. It’s more than a cookbook—it’s a guide to making everyday staples from scratch, from bread and peanut butter to tomato sauce and pickles. It also explores the role of quality ingredients, cookware, and even seasonal herbs in a wholesome kitchen.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I believe my most impactful quality throughout my journey as a low-tox mama has been my desire to learn new skills. The skills I use in my business weren’t passed down to me—I sought out resources and taught myself every step of the way. Like many other women my age, I wasn’t raised knowing how to make my own soap, ferment foods, or how to use herbs with health benefits.

Over the years, my knowledge of herbs and how to incorporate them into my products has developed one at a time. As a mama, I’ve spent countless hours researching and learning, driven by a desire to find safer alternatives to the products I see my friends and family use every day. I believe we all deserve better—products that don’t make us sick, but actually support our health. That’s why everything I sell is the same exact product I use in my own home.

My advice to anyone wanting to learn new skills is this: don’t wait for someone to teach you—go find the resources you need and teach yourself! You’ll always be your best advocate, especially when others don’t understand your choices.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

The biggest challenge I currently face is striving to grow a successful business that could one day support my family and be passed down to my children, while also being a present mother. My generation was done a huge disservice by being raised in hustle culture. I want to work hard and build something meaningful, but I also want to be a good mom. Balancing these two priorities is something I’ll likely always struggle with, but I couldn’t do it without my support system.
