We recently connected with Joyan Calhoun and have shared our conversation below.
Joyan , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Having ADHD is honestly a cheat code for creativity. I don’t run out of ideas — my brain gives me a constant stream of concepts and solutions, and I sift through them to pull out the best ones. I’m also great at integrating other people’s input, mixing it with my own ideas to create something better than either one alone.
On top of that, I’ve built a long-running fantasy storyline in my head that I’ve kept alive for years. It’s one of my personal creativity tools — it keeps my imagination sharp and constantly generating new angles.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I run an online personal training business called Jurassic Gains Fit, where I create fitness programs specifically for people with ADHD. There aren’t many programs built around how the ADHD brain works, so my goal is to fill that gap.
What makes my approach unique is that I design workouts and systems that work with the ADHD brain — flexible structures, dopamine-friendly training, and methods that keep people engaged even on the tough days. I’ve lived these challenges myself, so everything I create comes from real experience.
Right now I’m expanding with new digital resources to help more people stay consistent and finally see results without burning out. My mission is simple: make fitness accessible for the ADHD community and show that their brain can be a strength, not a setback.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Marketing
Marketing was the biggest game-changer for me. When I started, I had no plan, no strategy, and no clear niche. It took months of learning and trial and error to understand how to position my brand. My advice to anyone starting an online business is to identify your niche early and study how to communicate your value. Good marketing puts you in front of the right people.
2. Patience
Success doesn’t come overnight. You’re going to face setbacks, mistakes, and periods where it feels like nothing is working. I’ve gone through all of that myself. Patience allows you to keep improving instead of giving up.
3. Support & Networking
A strong support system made a major impact on my journey. My sister connected me with someone who understood marketing and designed my business cards. My family has always believed in what I’m building. I also met someone at the gym who ended up creating my first clothing line. Networking is a skill anyone can develop, and the right connections can open doors you didn’t even know existed.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m definitely open to collaborating with fellow ADHDers who share the same passion for fitness that I do. If you’re creating content, building a community, or working on a project that aligns with helping people with ADHD improve their health and lifestyle, I’d love to connect.
