Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joyce Kyles. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joyce , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I really believe that my purpose has always been a part of who I’ve been all of my life. I developed a passion for writing at a very early age. My third-grade teacher would always encourage me to write short stories and poems. She entered one of them in a citywide poetry contest. I didn’t win, but I took a lot of pride in her belief in me. My paternal grandmother would have me and my siblings participate in a myriad of activities in the church. Many of these included public speaking. My father was very charismatic and very much a people person. He and my grandmother were very much involved in community service and servant leadership.
When I think about my childhood, along with my personal lived experiences and professional education, it is no surprise to me that I’d pursue business ownership with a focus on helping others to transition and thrive abundantly. I founded my non-profit with the same mindset. My purpose has afforded me the opportunity to speak, write, coach, and facilitate locally, nationally, and internationally. I discovered how to use my purpose and passion to have a positive impact on those whom I have the joy to work with and those with whom I hope to connect.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Joyce Kyles Consulting LLC is a personal and professional development strategies business based in Snellville, GA. I offer solution-centered, in-person and/or virtual speaking, coaching, and consulting in the areas of mental health & wellness, mental illness, DEIB, leadership development, strategic planning, and transitional thriving skills in life and business. I’m an international speaker and facilitator, ICF-trained master coach, published freelancer, and 2x Amazon best-selling author with over 20 years of personal lived experience and professional training.
What I love most about what I do is all centered around transition and mindset. I’ve worked with military personnel making the transition back into civilian life. I’ve worked with individuals who are starting over in business, have left an unhealthy relationship, those who are wanting to make a career change, or looking for strategic planning for their staff. I’m especially excited about two of my signature topics/programs: What Color Is Your Elephant? and Create Yourself. They both provide a myriad of opportunities to take a deeper dive into ourselves, our short/long-term goals, unconscious biases, and limiting beliefs that keep us from showing up personally and professionally as our best selves. I love speaking about it or facilitating and exploring our many layers using the various tools I’ve created and customize to fit my clients’ needs.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say active listening, a willingness to explore, and maintaining a positive mindset has been the most impactful for my journey. My advice to those who are early in their journey is to give yourself some time and grace. There will be times when you will want to give up, especially when the opportunities seem few and far between. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Attend workshops. Read educational and motivational books. Listen to what’s being shared and don’t be afraid if what you hear is a bit out of the box from what you’d normally consider doing. It may be just the thing you need to move in a positive direction. If you’re taking in positive thoughts and maintaining relationships with positive people, it will have a much more desirable outcome for your journey.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal clients want to overcome mental/emotional stagnation and burnout either for themselves or their staff. Exploring transition, team building, faculty development, mental health/mental illness, strategic planning, recruitment, acquisition, and retention is important to them. They are seeking ways to establish and maintain their goals in a realistic way. Their challenges include feelings of invisibility, lack of clarity, confidence, and realistic work/life balance strategies. My ideal clients are local, regional, national, and international individuals, businesses, and agencies who desire positive changes and measurable results for themselves and their teams.
