Meet JUAN AMAYA

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to JUAN AMAYA. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

JUAN, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I would say I get my work ethic from my parents. Seeing them work hard together to support us when we were growing up. They always told me to work hard and share with my brother and sisters. Work hard for the things you want. As I grew older I knew that my work ethic would make me take the risk to be where I am today

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m an orthotics and prosthetics technician with over 20 years of experience in the orthotic and prosthetics industry. In the past two years I have started my own company specializing in the custom fabrication of orthotics and prosthetics. We can fabricate anything. My company AZ Ortho O&P Labs was started in 2022 to provide any one O&P services with no insurance at an affordable cost with payment plans available to anyone. AZ Ortho O&P Labs offers a mobile service to patients that are non-ambulatory.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Focus Vision Direction. Be teachable. Anything that you are good at, and you love doing grab it by the horns and run with it! Don’t stop on your vision. It doesn’t happen overnight. It takes a massive amount of dedication attitude control and hard work. I was blessed to have been able to work with Highly skilled intelligent, Certified Orthotist/Prosthetists such as Sander Nassan CPO, Mark Werner CPO owner of Arise Prosthetics and Tom Hamm Owner of Arizona Desert Orthopedic Center.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

For this question, I have to give credit to a few people who have helped me get started. Jason Yuhasz, Mark Werner and Tom Hamm. Jason and I worked together for 16 years. He taught me different techniques to make fabricating easier and faster. Teaching me the different types of componentry. Mark Warner, gave me the opportunity to use his lab when I was working out of my shed. Allowed me to borrow materials, use his equipment and he refers patients to me. In the past year, Mark has allowed me to take over the lease on the lab, Now AZ Ortho O&P Labs has a home. Tom Hamm, referred his first patient to me. This patient was extremely difficult to make prosthetics for. After numerous failed attempts by other facilities. He reached out to me and together, at almost every patient visit we were successful in the patient being able to walk. Tom, seeing how successful we were in such an extreme case. He decided to refer all his patients to me. It’s truly a blessing, to meet people that are willing to help you succeed. I couldn’t have done it without any of these people.
