We recently connected with Juan Faura and have shared our conversation below.
Juan, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
My generosity comes from my parents specifically my mother. At any early age, my mom instilled kind habits in me that not only benefitted myself but also others. In fact, she always says, “Selfless service is the greatest thing that mankind can offer to one another”. This quote still resonates with me today as a 22-year-old college student.
Also, having a sister with special needs has influenced the way I view society. Moreover, she has taught me to be grateful for what I have and to never take my blessings for granted. Essentially, it is my duty to serve others in the best way I can.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a senior at The Pennsylvania State University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Finance. I am originally from Macungie, PA which is about 3 hours east of State College. My college story begins with me wanting to be a “Wall Street kid” as I had family history in this career path. Shortly after exploring this career, I realized this was not for me.
In my sophomore year, I grew an affinity towards Athlete & Influencer marketing. Furthermore, I got involved with my friend’s clothing brand Jerpa and I served as Director of Athlete & Influencer Relations. My tasks included reaching out to the big sports agencies (WME, CAA, Wasserman) in hopes of getting product in their client’s hands. Interestingly, we were able to have some success as we sent product to Chris Paul, Wiz Khalifa, Saquon Barkley, Matt Rife, and more.
To continue, in summer of 2022 I got a call from Sean Clifford, current backup QB @ Green Bay Packers, asking me if I wanted to help him start his NIL agency. Obviously, I said yes and that was a great experience working with high level college athletes.
I then interned with the world-renowned Wasserman Management Company my junior year. Having the opportunity to intern at a top 5 sports agency was a surreal experience.
Which brings me to my junior year summer. After working for all these great companies, I decided it was time to start my own talent agency, Go Time. Go time is a talent agency helping athletes, influencers, and media personalities maximize their NIL capabilities beyond its monetary benefits. From identifying one’s personal brand to facilitating business and marketing partnerships, we create transformational opportunities for our clientele.
With over 13 clients on our active roster, we have worked with brands ranging from Raising Canes and Fanatics to HBO Max and Windsor. What gets me most excited about Go Time’s future is the athlete-influencer content days we have been hosting. In collaboration with TDAY Sports & Out2Win, we have been going to universities across the country and hosting these content days where athletes/influencers have the ability to connect with brands such as Gatorade, Slate Milk, Feastables, Timex, RECO, etc.
So far, we have had 3 content days, and they were at Penn State, Syracuse, and Philadelphia schools. We are excited to bring this concept to universities across the country as we look to redefine what NIL/Influencer Marketing looks like.
Lastly, I am always looking to connect with likeminded people and hear about their interests. Please feel free to reach out to [email protected].
Be Transformational Not Transactional.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey were having an ability to talk, being intentional, and providing value.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
A book that has played an important role in my development is “Make Your Bed” by William McRaven.
Below are a few of the most valuable or impactful nuggets of wisdom this book taught me:
1. Start your day with a hard task to complete; Doing the hard stuff first sets the tone for the rest of the day
2. Complaining does nothing but prolong the bad situation
3. You Can’t Go At It Alone.
