Meet Juan Loya

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Juan Loya. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Juan, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Growing up in a lower income household that was first-generation and moving to a lot of places definitely left me with a lot of experiences that Mexican American, children of immigrants face. A lot of the decisions that I made early on in life were not the best and led me to have a distinct viewpoint of life such as drugs, juvenile crime, poverty, and what can come of the bad life. All of these things had a lot to do with my purpose and knowing how I can help my community and family and be someone that others in the same upbringing can provide.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

LULAC- League of United American Citizens

I have been a member for over 10 years and think this is a great organization to get involved in and do community work and stand up for our communities under attack.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Being adaptable, reslient, and always remembering where I came from and that it is my superpower.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

My father was a hard working, prideful individual that made a few mistakes in life and ended up being deported back to Mexico and was involved in a bad life and not living for tomorrow. He taught me to not make the same mistakes and put my family first and not let the vices of life and the bad life take hold. My mother always taught me endless love and that family is always first and to never give up no matter what.
