Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Juan Pablo Castiblanco. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Juan Pablo , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
Hello, it’s great to start this conversation by talking about generosity, as it’s such an important aspect of my work as an artist.
Generosity involves a deep commitment, not only to others but also to oneself. It is an act of mutualism in which, to help others, we must first be well with ourselves.
I inherited this virtue from my mother, a woman who has dedicated her life to serving others with love and knowledge. Generosity is something we must pass down through generations, something worthy of imitation and passing along. Although the world may seem increasingly hostile and selfish, small acts of empathy can transform lives. And all of this begins with example.
The process begins with an act of humility: allowing ourselves to listen to others selflessly. From there, a world of possibilities opens up to create positive change, generating a snowball effect of generosity.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m an actor and writer . I began attending acting school at 16 in a different city, and that experience forced me to confront the reality of living on my own at such a young age. Though challenging, that decision taught me countless life lessons, deepened my gratitude for my family, and fueled my determination to fight for my dreams.
I’ve been working in the industry for almost 10 years. During this time, I had the privilege of playing the lead in the Colombian-American film Nowhere, currently streaming on Prime Video and Tubi. Additionally, I’ve had the opportunity to be part of the Netflix series Hijacking of Flight 601.
During the pandemic, I rediscovered my passion for scriptwriting. Motivated by the desire to share my stories and create characters that embody my vision, I began exploring new creative avenues. Today, I’m auditioning with my new agency, Armonika, for different productions around the world and seeking opportunities to produce the films and series I’ve written, aiming to give a voice to those who need it.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say that, more than just skills, there are three things that continue to help me heal and grow both as a person and as an actor.
First, it’s about surrounding yourself with people who listen and support your growth -those whose achievements and character make you proud to be in their company. As an actor, listening is essential; it helps you learn, connect more deeply with others, and bring authenticity to your work.
Second, push yourself to exercise, but with the mindset that it’s not just about having a good body. Exercise is key to maintaining mental well-being. In my case, I started practicing boxing, and it has transformed me into a calmer, more energized person.
Lastly, embrace every feeling and take pride in who you are, as well as in your family.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
I lost my cousin at the beginning of this year, who was like a brother to me. This is the first time in my life that I’ve experienced something like this, and the hardest part is accepting that it’s an impossible situation to change. Every day, it’s harder to understand that the person I loved now lives only in my memory. Just thinking about all the dreams and plans we had together gives me chills.
However, I’ve decided to face this loss in the best way I can: healing little by little, keeping the promises we made, and honoring him in each of my actions and successes.
To conclude, I’d like to thank you for turning this interview into an opportunity not just to share my work, but also to delve deeper and reflect on the creative process behind it.
