Julia, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding my purpose has been a journey of self-discovery and exploration. I believe that purpose is not something we stumble upon overnight, but rather something that evolves over time. For me, it involved reflecting on my passions, strengths, and values, and aligning them with meaningful activities and goals.

I started by exploring various interests and engaging in different experiences that resonated with me. I sought out opportunities to volunteer, take on new challenges, and learn from diverse perspectives. Through these experiences, I discovered what truly inspired and motivated me.

Additionally, introspection played a crucial role in uncovering my purpose. I spent time reflecting on my values, asking myself what truly mattered to me, and what impact I wanted to make in the world. This process helped me gain clarity and identify the areas where I felt most fulfilled and aligned with my values.

It’s important to note that finding purpose is not a linear process. It involves trial and error, self-reflection, and being open to new opportunities. It’s about being receptive to change and embracing growth.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my journey, there were three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that had a significant impact on my personal growth and success. These qualities are resilience, self-awareness, and a growth mindset.

Resilience: Resilience is the ability to bounce back from challenges, setbacks, and failures. It is a crucial quality that helped me navigate through difficult times and persevere in pursuing my goals. My advice for those early in their journey is to embrace resilience as a skill to be developed. This can be done by reframing failures as learning opportunities, seeking support from mentors or a supportive community, and practicing self-care to maintain emotional and mental well-being.

Self-awareness: Self-awareness involves understanding oneself, including strengths, weaknesses, values, and aspirations. It played a vital role in guiding me towards my purpose and making informed decisions aligned with my authentic self. To develop self-awareness, I recommend spending dedicated time for self-reflection, journaling, seeking feedback from others, and engaging in practices like meditation or mindfulness. These activities help individuals gain deeper insights into their thoughts, emotions, and motivations, facilitating personal growth and informed decision-making.

Growth mindset: A growth mindset is a belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through effort and dedication. Cultivating a growth mindset allowed me to embrace challenges, learn from failures, and continuously improve. For those starting their journey, I encourage them to adopt a growth mindset by reframing obstacles as opportunities for growth, embracing a love for learning and curiosity, seeking feedback, and setting realistic yet stretching goals. Embracing a growth mindset allows individuals to overcome self-imposed limitations and unlock their full potential.

Overall, my advice to individuals early in their journey is to cultivate resilience, develop self-awareness, and adopt a growth mindset. These qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge can be nurtured through intentional practice, self-reflection, seeking support, and maintaining a mindset focused on continuous learning and growth. By developing these foundational aspects, individuals can navigate challenges, make informed decisions, and embark on a journey of personal growth and success.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I have developed a set of strategies that help me regain clarity, reduce stress, and regain a sense of control. Here are a few pieces of advice and strategies that I find helpful:

Take a break and breathe: When overwhelmed, it’s crucial to pause and take a moment to breathe deeply. Deep breathing helps activate the body’s relaxation response and calms the mind. I find it helpful to step away from the situation, find a quiet space, and engage in deep, mindful breathing exercises. This simple practice helps me center myself and regain a sense of balance.

Prioritize and delegate: Overwhelm often stems from having too many tasks or responsibilities at once. To address this, I make a list of all the tasks and obligations in front of me and then prioritize them based on urgency and importance. By focusing on the most critical tasks, I can break down the workload into manageable chunks. Additionally, when possible, I delegate tasks to others, recognizing that I don’t have to do everything alone.

Seek support and communicate: It’s important to remember that we don’t have to face overwhelm alone. Seeking support from trusted friends, family members, or colleagues can provide valuable perspective and assistance. Sharing our feelings of overwhelm with someone we trust can offer emotional support and potential solutions. Additionally, effective communication with others involved in the situation can help clarify expectations, share the workload, or seek necessary assistance.

Practice self-care: Self-care is essential in managing overwhelm. Engaging in activities that recharge and nourish your well-being is crucial. It could involve taking breaks to engage in activities you enjoy, such as hobbies, exercise, spending time in nature, or connecting with loved ones. Prioritizing self-care helps restore energy, enhance resilience, and maintain a positive mindset.

Break tasks into smaller steps: Overwhelm can often be alleviated by breaking down complex tasks into smaller, more manageable steps.
