Meet Julia Kenyon

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julia Kenyon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Julia, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I draw my optimism from a deep sense of gratitude for everything around me. Social media often makes it seem like everyone else has a perfect life, but gratitude helps me stay focused on what truly matters. It’s the key to my happiness and perspective. Spending time in nature is also crucial for my optimism—it grounds me and refreshes my outlook on life. I also find that being thankful for what I have attracts even more good things into my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Diving into both graphic design and mural painting, my artistic journey started back when I was earning my BFA in Graphic Design at Oregon State University (graduated in 2020). But what really lights my fire? The endless playground of creativity. Whether I’m infusing life into barren walls (or windows) with a kaleidoscope of colors, shaping brand identities through purposeful logo design, or sculpting wearable art that tells stories, I’m all about exploring the vast world of artistic possibilities.

Currently, I’m stoked about the growth of my mural painting endeavors and am eagerly booking projects for Q3 and Q4 of 2024. On a personal note, I’m on a quest to leave my artistic mark in all 50 states—I’ve marked off two so far, with many more to go! Ready to transform your space into a work of art? Count me in—I’m always up for the adventure, wherever it may take me.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I believe the qualities of staying curious and playful, continuous learning and exploration, and taking calculated risks have been the most impactful in my journey as a mural artist and creative.

For those just starting their creative journey, my advice is to not fret over labels or niching down too early. Embrace your curiosity and allow it to guide you. Don’t be afraid to explore various interests and let your passions evolve naturally over time.

Remember, the path to artistic growth is paved with continuous learning and experimentation. Stay open to new perspectives and never stop seeking out new skills and experiences. And don’t shy away from taking calculated risks; they often lead to unexpected breakthroughs and opportunities.

Above all, nurture your creativity in all aspects of life. Draw inspiration from the world around you and find joy in the little moments. Live a rich life—whatever that means to you. Seize opportunities that resonate with you, and don’t hesitate to step outside your comfort zone. By immersing yourself in diverse experiences and indulging in activities you love, you’ll find endless inspiration and creativity.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Certainly! I’m always on the lookout for opportunities to collaborate with others. Collaboration is not only the key to growth but also makes work waaaaay more fun.

I’m really excited to work with short-term rental owners (you know, Airbnb, Vrbo, all those cool spots) and interior designers. Let’s jazz up those spaces with some killer designs and epic murals to give guests an unforgettable experience!

Plus, I’m super passionate about teaming up with schools and non-profits that support kids. I want to inspire the next generation by showing them what’s possible in art and design. And hey, maybe we can even get them involved in painting some murals!

If you’re interested in connecting or collaborating, I invite you to explore my work on Instagram @juliakenyon and send me a DM. You can also reach out to me directly via email at [email protected]. Let’s bring our ideas to life together!
