We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Julia Kraemer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Julia, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
This is such a sweet question. My generosity comes from always trying to put myself in others’ shoes and see the world from different perspectives. It might sound cliché, but I really believe society would be a better place if everyone gave what they could, even if it’s just their time or a small act of kindness.
When I created Kangaroo Cozies, it came from a deep-rooted passion to give back to other families walking through the NICU experience like I once did. A little bit truly goes a long way. If we all lead with love, the ripple effect can change more lives than we realize.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m the founder of Kangaroo Cozies, a bamboo boutique born straight from my heart and my own NICU journey as a parent. After spending 3 months in the NICU, I realized how meaningful the smallest comforts can be, not just for the babies, but for the parents, too. That experience inspired me to create my store and put together products that bring softness, warmth, and a sense of connection during one of the most emotional times a family can experience.
At Kangaroo Cozies, we have buttery-soft bamboo cozies, NICU journals, bonding scent hearts, and thoughtful gifts that blend function with comfort. What makes this work so special to me is knowing that each item can become a small source of peace letting others know “you’re not alone” when words fall short.
Professionally, my focus is on growing Kangaroo Cozies to continue to give back to the NICU community. I regularly donate products and resources to hospitals and families because that sense of giving back is at the heart of why I started.
I’m also excited about what’s ahead and hopeful to keep expanding our product line. Every new step is guided by the same mission: to wrap families in care, comfort, and connection.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey of founding Kangaroo Cozies were: having the first-hand experience of being a NICU mom, pouring my whole heart into every detail, and having an eagerness to learn. I had never worked in this field before, but my excitement to understand every part of the process kept me moving forward.
My advice for anyone early in their journey is to never lose sight of why you started. Hold onto those early feelings of excitement and purpose, even on the harder days when it feels like things aren’t falling into place. That original “why” will carry you through and remind you that growth takes time, but heart and perseverance always make it worth it.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, yes, and yes! The more the merrier. I truly believe in the power of community and uplifting other small businesses. There are a few ways I love to collaborate.
One is through sponsoring NICU donations — it’s such a meaningful way for businesses to give back together and make a real impact for families in need.
Another way is through social media collaborations or giveaways — especially around the holidays. Partnering for a giveaway is a great way to spread awareness for both of our brands while doing something thoughtful for our communities.
