We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julia Pistsova. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julia below.
Julia, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Developing my confidence and self-esteem has been a gradual process, taken one step at a time. As a perfectionist, I see this trait as both a blessing and a curse. I deeply admire people who find satisfaction simply in trying to create something, but for me, it has always been about achieving beauty, high quality, and excellence. The details are paramount, as they make a garment special and unique, instilling a sense of confidence and specialness in the wearer.
Being a perfectionist has its advantages in my line of work. I spend countless hours perfecting every stitch and technique to ensure I provide the highest quality to my clients. Whenever something didn’t turn out right, I would redo it until I was satisfied. Quality is incredibly important to me, and it took a lot of time and effort to reach a level of craftsmanship I could truly be proud of. From straight stitches and using couture techniques to finish the inside of a garment to selecting quality fabrics and ensuring the perfect fit, I strive to make each piece as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.
The turning point in my journey was when I took on a project that I initially had no idea how to create. Successfully completing it made me realize my capabilities and instilled a deep sense of pride. It was a moment of self-acknowledgment—realizing that I can indeed create remarkable things. This experience significantly boosted my confidence and reinforced my belief in my skills.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the owner of Kiki Bisous Atelier, a full-service tailoring atelier that offers everything from high-end alterations to bespoke custom-made garments. Quality, perfect fit, and a personalized approach are at the core of everything I do. In a world where fashion is often generic and mass-produced, I strive to bring soul and individuality to my creations.
Clothing is a significant part of our persona and a powerful form of non-verbal communication. I believe there is a deep connection between what we wear and how we feel about ourselves, which in turn affects our behavior and how we present ourselves to the world. When you wear a quality garment that fits you perfectly, you feel secure, strong, and confident.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is seeing a client in the dressing room, looking at their reflection with newfound confidence, acceptance, and love for how they look. This is why I do what I do—it’s incredibly fulfilling to help people feel their best through beautifully tailored clothing.
This year has been particularly exciting as I’ve expanded into designing a bridal party dresses capsule collection. It started with my bridal clients, who often mentioned how challenging it was to find the perfect rehearsal dinner dress. This inspired me to create a collection that caters specifically to the needs and desires of brides and their bridal parties.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities that have been instrumental in my journey are persistence, patience, and goal-setting.
1. Persistence: It’s crucial to continue learning, growing, and evolving, even when things don’t turn out as planned. Each project is an opportunity to improve and refine your skills. My advice to those early in their journey is to embrace setbacks as learning experiences and keep pushing forward.
2. Patience: Nothing worthwhile happens overnight. It takes practice and dedication to master any craft. Be patient with the process and with yourself, and you’ll start to see magical results. Remember, progress is gradual, and every small step counts.
3. Goal-Setting: Having clear goals is essential for motivation and direction. Goals help you stay focused and give you something to strive for, especially during challenging times. When you feel exhausted or defeated, your goals remind you of why you started and help you get back on track.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I have been fortunate to learn from many skilled teachers who generously shared their knowledge with me, and I am deeply grateful to them. However, the most significant support has come from my lovely husband. He always believed in me, even before I believed in myself. He recognized my passion for creating clothing and gifted me my first sewing machine in the US, which set me on this incredible journey. His unwavering belief in my talents has been a constant source of encouragement and motivation.
