Meet Julian Lindsay

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julian Lindsay. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Julian, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

By rooting my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, following his principles and doing my best to carry them out. I am, as we all are imperfect beings navigating this imperfect world, searching for our “purpose” or “calling.” To stir the pot early, I believe-you cannot find your purpose through your own willpower. Every being’s purpose is to give glory to the God, use their God given gifts and talents to help others and point them in the direction of The Creator.

For one to think or assume they are capable of manifesting their own destiny/blessings is not only delusional but illogical. You weren’t responsible for the creation of self with all your idiosyncrasies, nor will you be in control of when your time is up. So, here’s a quick exercise, honestly ask yourself, “Am I truly in control of my life?

Everyone’s shared purpose is to help one another with the God given talents/gifts bestowed upon them and to be grateful and thankful for the one who gave it to them. We lose or become lost when we hoard for ourselves, disregard others and fall in love with gifts and not the giver. To be sensitive around the truth that yes, we all have and come from different circumstances but that does not absolve the fact that each of us has something to offer to one another.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Almost into my 10-year mark, I’m journeying in California currently as an entrepreneur and an aspiring artist in the entertainment industry. In business serving as a Massage Therapist, for the longest, I’ve had a deep interest in encouraging, helping others to manage and promote living healthier lifestyles. I partner with various companies throughout LA County and service clients in-home as well as spas in West Hollywood, CA and Torrance, CA. As an actor for Film, Television and Theater, the love for storytelling, gripping topics of conversation and character development has granted me opportunities to work on meaningful projects. As I press forward, I desire to collaborate with serious individuals who are interested on working on captivating projects with the intent to draw viewers in. Not just for entertainment value but dare to go beyond the superficial to spark new conversations and revelations.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three is a cute but powerful number but honestly speaking there are several qualities, skills and areas of knowledge that are impactful in my journey. Let’s take a quick dive

Starting with one-“Knowing Who You Are.” Identity is CRUCIAL in this maze of life! How many countless times have we witnessed people of prominence or even you wonder, “Who the hell am I”? and/or “What’s my purpose’? It is morally, spiritually, emotionally dangerous to enter into spaces, industries, relationships etc. and not know who you are. Yes, we are ever learning and growing but for each step/stage in life are you prepared? Have you spent enough time with self to unpack, unlearn, learn new behaviors, beliefs and ways of thought? Know your value, understand with what you bring to the table; know how to show up and even when you don’t, that’s ok! What’s not ok is to assume you know and move in a naivete manner, where you can be shifted, shaped or easily influenced by anything. I rooted my trust and faith in the living word of God (The Bible) and having God reveal to me more of who I am, building my house on rock not sand (Matthew 7:24-27) I didn’t create me so how would I fully know me?

Secondly-“Having the Right People Around You.” There is absolutely nobody who became successful later in life who did not have a healthy support system or did it “alone.” A long time ago, I had to get rid of the beliefs of ” Sh**, I don’t need nobody”, “It’s just me and you God.” Life, people, situations, circumstances can push you into isolation, making you believe that you don’t need anyone, which is certainly not true. Relationships are the highest form of currency and when you have the right ones around you/in your life, embrace them. To be honest, yes, you’re going to lose people for various reasons along way and those are some of the incidentals during this walk of life, but don’t you dare you fold. Every person no matter the impact they had on you served a purpose in your life to propel you to next. No matter if it’s just one person, two, three or more, open your eyes and recognize those who truly are in your corner. These are the individuals that will be there in your darkest hours, and in your brightest moments and we should cherish that. Be loving, use discernment and make sure as they help water your garden, you’re also helping to cultivate theirs.

Third-“Receiving Grace”. We all need it, and we all get it but don’t abuse it. There’s not enough time nor is this the space to divulge all my troubles and mishaps but thank God for his grace. I can be incredibly hard on myself and even ran under the label a “perfectionist”. There’s so much life to live and you’re not going to get everything right, quick update! YOU’RE GOING TO SCREW UP, we’re human. Now be mindful, grace is not a license to continue wrongdoing, there are consequences…lets not be ignorant. What I’m highlighting is, you can rebound after you stumbled or missed the mark. We are humans with tendencies, proclivities and are prone to mistakes; the real question is, are you willing to change?

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Out of the many books I’ve read, the one that struck my mind is “Finding Me: A Memoir” by Viola Davis. My gosh…talk about a powerful, impactful and humbling story by one Hollywood’s most celebrated actresses, that will leave you with deep introspection. The jaw dropping hurdles, pitfalls, disappointments, loss, abuse that she endured that brought her here in front of our eyes, is nothing more than the love and grace of God. What it seemed to be the endless amounts challenges she faced, she always found a way to rise above. One of the toughest quotes in the book I put in my back pocket is -““I’m no longer ashamed of me. I own everything that has ever happened to me. The parts that were a source of shame are actually my warrior fuel.”

That’s all I’m going to say for promotion. Go check it out for yourself.
