Meet Julian Mireles

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Julian Mireles a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Julian with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
“My dedication stems from the mentorship of my previous boss, who not only shared invaluable industry insights but also instilled in me the importance of relentless effort and consistency. She showed me how diligence sets one apart in a world full of hairstylist. Fuelled by this wisdom, I strived towards surpassing milestones, all while maintaining a receptive mindset to embrace new techniques and refine my craft.”

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
“Hello, I’m Julian, and I’ve dedicated more than a decade to perfecting my craft in the beauty industry. The beauty industry’s never-ending evolution is what makes it such an exciting field to be a part of. I thrive on staying ahead by embracing new techniques and continuous education to adapt to the beauty world. When you entrust your hair to me, rest assured, I sweat the small stuff to ensure the big picture is flawless. My clients leave feeling fabulous, smiling cause they can have the beautiful healthy hair they’ve always wanted.

Also, I find fulfillment in giving back as a hairstylist. Recently, as a salon we’ve embarked on journeys abroad, like our latest trip to Cambodia, where we taught individuals in underserved communities how to cut hair. This invaluable skill empowers them to be able to go out to provide and support their families, This resonates deeply with me since such a small thing as haircutting can make such a huge impact on one persons life.”

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Throughout my experience as a hairstylist, I’ve discovered three key elements that have steered me through challenges, helped with personal and professional growth, and ultimately paved the path to success in my career.

The first key element I would say is Consistency. Consistency with both clients and your skill is crucial for building trust, loyalty, and a strong reputation as a stylist.

Consistency with clients fosters a sense of reliability, ensuring that they know what to expect each time they visit your salon. This consistency in service quality, communication, and overall experience cultivates trust, which is essential for maintaining long-term relationships with clients. When clients trust you, they’re more likely to return and recommend your services to others, contributing to your business’s growth and success.

The second key element is skill development. This is important because it ensures that you’re continually improving and providing the best possible service to your clients. By consistently refining your techniques, staying updated on industry trends, and seeking opportunities for education and growth, you enhance your proficiency as a stylist. This not only allows you to deliver consistent, high-quality results to your clients but also positions you as a reputable professional within the industry. I was once told that you are never too old to learn something new, and to always keep an open mind. Even if it’s a technique you’re familiar with you can always take something away from every educational experience.

And the last key element is remaining humble. Remaining humble as a hairstylist is important because it allows you to maintain a mindset of continual improvement and empathy. Humility keeps you grounded, reminding you that there is always more to learn and ways to grow, regardless of your level of expertise. This mindset encourages you to seek out feedback, stay open to new ideas, and consistently strive to better your craft. In life anything and everything can be taken away so quickly so we have to remember how blessed we are to have this opportunity to thrive in our careers.

These key elements have helped guide me through my career and any obstacles that I may have come by in my career. By embracing these core principles, hairstylists can unlock the pathway to sustained success in their craft, ensuring longevity and fulfillment in their careers.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The book “Raving Fans: A Revolutionary Approach To Customer Service” has been instrumental in shaping my journey as a hairstylist. It stressed the significance of going the extra mile for each client, cultivating a devoted base of supporters who continually seek out exceptional service. This principle has been instrumental in shaping my approach and fostering long-term success in my career. Its message to provide exceptional customer service and make it all about the customer not about you, will for sure assist you in building a calendar full of raving fans.
