We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Julie Lo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Julie, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.
Despite Ethereal Bloom being more of a hobby than a full-time commitment for me, I’ve still adopted strategies to prevent burnout and maintain a healthy balance. I prioritize setting boundaries to ensure that my hobby doesn’t consume all of my free time. When I feel overwhelmed, I’m all about asking for help or taking a step back away from working. Additionally, I keep a healthy balance between all of my hobbies so that it doesn’t consume all of my time; everything in moderation is key. It’s all about managing my involvement effectively to sustain enjoyment and enthusiasm for Ethereal Bloom.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I strive to create the best and custom arrangements for my clients. Our motto is “Flowers for every chapter of life.” With that being said, I want Ethereal Bloom to also be a part of your life’s journey. I launched a new proposal event service with Ethereal Bloom last year, which I’m excited to introduce to Minnesota. Since it’s still brand new, I hope people will see its beauty and choose Ethereal Bloom for their special day.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
As I am continually learning for Ethereal Bloom, I would say that the most valuable lessons come from trial and error. I often invest more money in practice until I perfect my methods. Being a florist isn’t a cheap hobby or job; it’s expensive. However, having an open mind to spend a little extra on practice really helps along the journey.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Ethereal Bloom is still a relatively new business. Although I initially began this venture as a side hustle, I am eager to expand my client base. Like any business, it’s a challenge when you’re not attracting enough clients, and that’s something Ethereal Bloom is currently addressing. While I’m fortunate to have loyal clients who return, I’m always seeking new opportunities to challenge myself and connect with new people.
