Hi Julie , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I grew up in a town of 24 people in Wyoming aptly named Ucross because it consisted of two streets that crossed. My father would always say “a family who works together stays together”. It would not be unusual for him to wake us up at 4 am to go on cattle drives or for my brother and I to be dropped in the middle of a field on a hot summer day to turn over hay bails for what seemed to be endless hours. Living a country lifestyle teaches you the value of hard work quickly and at a young age.

Founded by Julie Lomakka, Tabono is more than just a brand; it’s a movement of positivity and self-expression. I have always had passion for fashion and a belief in the power of positive thinking and so it seems a logical choice to combine the two and create a brand that empowers individuals to shine.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The Three Essential Skills That Have Driven My Success: Passion, Confidence, and Motivation
Throughout my journey, three skills have proven invaluable: passion, confidence, and motivation.

Passion
Passion and love for what you do are the driving forces behind everything else. When you have an emotional attachment to your business and understand its value to yourself and others, you find the inspiration to propel it forward. The inception of Tabono was purely fueled by passion. Every aspect of this business began with a deep-seated passion.

Confidence
Confidence in yourself and your brand is crucial for success. Business ventures inevitably experience highs and lows, and it’s your confidence that will carry you through challenging times. Moreover, exuding confidence is essential for gaining the trust and support of others. Your belief in your brand inspires others to believe in it too.

Motivation
Motivation is the daily push every business owner needs to grow and evolve their enterprise. In the realm of entrepreneurship, there’s no one looking over your shoulder to ensure you get your work done. Therefore, your self-motivation becomes the driving force that moves your business forward.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Let’s face it: we all feel overwhelmed at times, likely more often than we care to admit. Running your own business can sometimes feel like being adrift and lost at sea. As someone who needs to process thoughts to develop solutions, I’ve found that stepping out of the situation is the most effective way to manage overwhelm.

Here are some strategies that work for me:

Step Away and Recharge
When I feel overwhelmed, I find it helpful to step away from the immediate issue. Engaging in a workout or calling a friend to discuss something completely unrelated to work allows me to clear my mind and return with a fresh perspective.

Leverage Networking Groups
I belong to several women’s networking groups, which provide a supportive community and valuable insights. These groups offer a space to share experiences and solutions with like-minded individuals who understand the unique challenges of running a business.

Utilize Accountability Partners
Having a work accountability partner has been invaluable. Whether I need to brainstorm solutions or seek advice, this partnership provides a reliable sounding board. It’s reassuring to have someone who can offer a different perspective and help me navigate through tough decisions.
