We recently connected with Julie Margi and have shared our conversation below.
Julie, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by constantly working with a diverse range of clients, complexions, and events. Every face is different, and every occasion—whether it’s a wedding, red carpet, branding shoot, or fitness competition—challenges me to adapt my artistry and bring something fresh to the table. That variety not only keeps me on my toes but also pushes me to stay versatile in my style.
As a licensed esthetician, I also get to explore the full scope of beauty services—facials, waxing, airbrush tanning; all of which adds another layer of creativity to my work. I truly believe variety is the spice of life. Beyond that, I stay engaged by keeping up with beauty trends, investing in continuing education, and testing new products (often on myself) so I can offer the best to my clients while feeding my own artistic curiosity.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a licensed esthetician and professional makeup artist with nearly 18 years of experience. I’ve been licensed since 2007 and have had the privilege of working across a wide range of settings—from red carpets and fitness competitions to branding shoots and special events. I also offer a full scope of esthetic services including facials, waxing, and airbrush tanning.
What sets my brand apart is the intentional, customized experience I create for each client. I work with everyone—men, women, and individuals in transition and beauty is not one-size-fits-all. My job is to understand your vision and help you feel like you at your absolute best. That’s the meaning behind my tag line: ‘Step Into Your Best Self.’
The variety in my work keeps me inspired. Every face, every story, every occasion brings something new, and I love the creative challenge of tailoring each look to match the energy of the person and the moment. Whether it’s glam, relaxation or whatever your goal is, I’m here to enhance what already makes someone shine.
At this stage in my career, I’m focused on continuing to offer high-end, personalized services that empower people and honor their individuality. For me, it’s about more than just makeup or skincare—it’s about confidence, connection, and care.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that have shaped my journey the most are adaptability, emotional intelligence, and consistency.
1. Adaptability has been key. I work with such a wide range of clients. Different skin tones, face shapes, identities, and events, so being able to adjust my approach to meet each person where they are has been essential. For those just starting out, I encourage you to stay open. Trends evolve, tools change, and every client is unique. Stay teachable, curious and willing to grow.
2. Emotional intelligence has helped me connect deeply with my clients. Whether someone is preparing for a major life moment or just needs a confidence boost, it’s about making them feel comfortable and confident. If you’re new to the field, take the time to really listen. Building a genuine rapport is just as important as mastering your technique.
3. Consistency is what’s built trust in my brand. I’ve learned that showing up with professionalism and excellence, even when it’s not glamorous, makes a lasting impression. For those starting out, know that your habits speak for you long before your portfolio does. Stay committed to quality, no matter what stage you’re in.
If you focus on being adaptable, emotionally aware, and consistent—you’ll not only grow your skills but also create an experience that keeps people coming back.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I try to pause, pray, and prioritize. I’m learning to rest without guilt and recognize when I need to slow down. Doing something kind for myself; like getting a massage, getting my nails done, or spending time with close friends helps me reset and reconnect.
As someone who juggles multiple roles it’s easy to feel stretched thin. But I’ve come to understand that protecting my peace and pacing myself isn’t weakness, it’s wisdom. When I slow down and move with intent, I come back stronger and more creative. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
