Meet Julie Sherer

We recently connected with Julie Sherer and have shared our conversation below.

Julie , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Plants truly bring me so much joy; so, I’ve made it my mission to simply create joy in my community. I vend at farmers markets often, and I hope to make everyone who steps into my booth feel welcomed, appreciated, and leave feeling better than when they arrived. This has all stemmed from my love of plants!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m so grateful that I get to spend my days outside with plants! I grow a variety of greenery such as Philodendron, Monstera, Alocasia, Ferns, Cacti and so much more. In addition to potted plants, I create what I like to call, “living art”. I transform ordinary plants into statement pieces for the home. Building terrariums is one of my favorite ways to express my creativity. You can visit Groovy Growing at plant sales and farmers markets all across Florida as well as online on our website ~ groovygrowing.com!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

My best advice I could give anyone starting a new journey is to practice your skills. I’m not an expert when it comes to plants, but I’ve had so much experience with them throughout the years it essentially launched me into starting my own nursery. Then, I’d say decision making skills and the ability to pivot is key. I think we all crave comfort, but change in business is vital. Everything around us is evolving daily and adjusting to those changes is necessary for a successful business.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

I’m very thankful that I have the parents that I have. They have been a wonderful support system throughout this entire journey. They not only have supported me through encouragement, but they have allowed me to build a shade-house on their property. I truly wouldn’t be able to do what I’m doing without them. Thank you to my mom and dad.
