We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Juliette Ricci Lagman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Juliette Ricci below.
Hi Juliette Ricci , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem by working on it. I have been working with a life coach who guided me to record my personalized affirmations. Every morning I meditate on them. Additionally, posting my first podcast episode and publishing my second book brought me quite a bit of confidence. Just having that feeling of getting it done!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a writer and podcast host. I started as a photographer and mixed media painter, earning my Bachelor of fine arts degree at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2001. My second book entitled Be Like Water – a visual memoir – was published in September 2024. It is a healing journey including handwritten prose, poetry, photos, and art. A beautiful book. My first book called The Juliette Letters is a compilation of the last 20 years of my prose and paintings.
The podcast I just started is called Permission Granted with Juliette Ricci Lagman. It’s about living your dreams, and what do you want to do in this one precious life. What is holding you back – and if you are living your dreams what pushed you over the edge to take the leap. My podcast can be found on Spotify and Apple Podcasts -and my books are available on my website www.juliettericcilagman.com.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Customer Service – Can’t operate without it.
Writing – helps you tell a story.
Creativity – being open to new and innovative ideas and approaches to life and projects
The best advice I would have is to follow your curiosity, and don’t be afraid to be the first. Creating something new begins with one step. If it brings you joy, then absolutely do it! Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. If it scares you, ask yourself why, move in that direction, and don’t let the fear stop you. Only let it empower you to move in that new direction. It’s a sign you are on the right track.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My instructor Barbara DeGenevieve was most impactful in pushing me in art school. Only recently did I realize how much she taught me to be open and accepting of all venues, art styles, lifestyles, and people. I feel that is one of my superpowers – I don’t judge, and am accepting of everyone. Let people be who they are – it’s the key to happiness. My life coach Margaret Smith and energy healer Katherine Litz and helping me in my recent journey learn who I truly am, and do the hard things. I have learned to view things in a new and better way – and be open to the good things in life.
