We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Julisa Chavez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Julisa with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I learned it from my parents. The sacrifices they made to ensure my brother and I could succeed continue to inspire me every day. From a young age, they taught us through both example and action. My dad showed us what hard work truly looks like—building his own business from the ground up, waking us early to join him on-site, and teaching us the fundamentals of life. My mom taught us to be independent and navigate this world confidently. Both of my parents instilled in us the importance of work ethic, loyalty, and honesty. Those values still guide me today and push me to work harder, aim higher, and approach everything I do with dedication.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We specialize in creating custom decorative pieces, offering full event planning services, and designing unforgettable event décor. Our work is known for its standout balloon backdrops, custom centerpieces and focal pieces, detailed tablescapes, and personalized drinkware, apparel, and versatile décor.
We provide a fully customized experience from start to finish. One of my favorite parts of this work is seeing kids’ faces light up the moment they walk into a setup. Their pure joy is contagious—you can’t help but feel like a kid again right alongside them. As the self-proclaimed “favorite aunt” of many, I’ve always loved creating moments that make children feel special. I’m grateful that through my work, I get to help create those same unforgettable memories for other families and their kids too.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Tenacity, passion, and honesty. I’m still early in my journey, and every day teaches me something new—something I know will continue for as long as I’m here. But these three qualities have consistently shaped every chapter of my life for the better. Tenacity gives you the grit to pursue what you want. Even when the road gets hard, that inner fire keeps you moving forward.
Passion brings meaning to your craft. It drives you to explore every part of what you do—the good, the bad, and the challenging. Passion is the fuel that powers your journey. As Fabienne Fredrickson said, “The things you are passionate about are not random, they are your calling.” And that calling is what inspires you to keep evolving.
Lastly, honesty. My parents taught me to lead with honesty in every aspect of my life. Honesty builds trust, and it reflects who you truly are as a person. When we’re honest with others—even when the truth is difficult—we avoid unnecessary misunderstandings and heartache. But just as importantly, we must be honest with ourselves. Who are we? Do we truly like the path we’re on? Genuine self-reflection is essential for real growth. Authenticity begins with truth, especially our own.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
There are countless people I need to thank, because in every chapter of my life I’ve met individuals who have supported me unconditionally. From the very beginning, my parents guided me and taught me how to navigate the world. My family showed me what it truly means to be part of a village. My friends cheer me on, offer honest feedback, and always show up when I need a sounding board. And my cousins—who never fail to lift me up when I’m doubting myself, who proofread for me, and who celebrate every small victory, even something as simple as watching my Instagram grow—mean more to me than they know.
I couldn’t do any of this without them. Their support is priceless, and I will be forever grateful. I only hope that one day I can give back even a fraction of the love and encouragement they’ve given me.
