We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julius Hall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julius below.
Hi Julius, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my mom and my grandmother. When I was a little boy, I watched them work and hustle in the streets of Savannah GA. In our restaurants, to selling watermelons and boiled crabs from the back of my grandmom’s station wagon. When I was 9 years old, I was operating our gas station all by myself. I even got robbed one time at the gas station. Work is all I know. I wake at about 6 every morning and I have so much to do that I end up ending my day around 1am every night working at my desk at home.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I first thought of the information arena in 2019 when I noticed that there was a void in the way information was being delivered to the African-American community. We weren’t being treated fairly by the mainstream white media, and the small media publications we did have were very ineffective. So I invented ATR, All Things Relevant. I wanted this platform to somehow become the news for black folks. I started with 1 Facebook show on my personal Facebook page. Then, the next thing you knew, I had 4 shows, then 7 shows, then 11 shows. Over the next 2.5 years, I had started or created 28 shows, From Politics to Religion, from Sports to Health, from Love & Relationships to Finance, from Comedy to Real Estate, from Mental Health to various Talk Shows.
In the 3rd year, I started our own Roku TV channel, and to go along with that, my team and I created magazines, Hello Savannah, The Port City Review, and now Hello Atlanta. By this time, I wanted to separate ATR, which was the Business and Political Consulting arm of my company from the media side of my business. In 2021, I created Our Black Media to put all of my media information products under. Now, we’re doing all things media, we have 20+ social media shows on the Our Black Media Platform, we have a Roku TV Channel to put all the shows on, We have 3 magazines with a 4th starting in November ( Hello Jacksonville), and by mid-October to early November, we will have our first ever Digital Radio Station Hot 2100 Savannah.
Our Black Media is on the move, but it’s been a challenge keeping everything going. All funding for everything is coming out of my pockets. I’ve been blessed to have clients under my ATR wing who have provided me with enough work from managing and consulting, that have allowed me to be able to fund these projects.
Hopefully, a rich person like Byron Allen, Tyler Perry, or Oprah Winfrey will see what we’re doing and come to our rescue. I’d like to do what I’m doing all over the country.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
What I’d like to tell anyone with a dream is this, Don’t let anyone dim your lights. If it’s your vision, work on it. Turn the no’s into your motivation to prove them wrong. Be passionate about what you do. And if you want to be an Entrepreneur, you have to become a person who will risk their own money for freedom, rather than exchanging their freedom for money. The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary. Be Passionate, be Dedicated, and be Committed. You only failed because you stopped trying.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I have a TEAM that helps make all the wheels turn. My wife, Dr. Tonia Howard-Hall, never gave up on me. My motto is Teamwork makes the Dream Work. The list is too big to name everyone, but the most impactful are Dr. Jamal Toure, Dr. Robert Bryant, Charlie Brown, Terresa Lake, Natalie Leggette, Chris Smith, Bernard Brown, Charles Shaw, Chantaye McLaughlin, and Alicia Scott. Overall, I believe that God is directing my steps. I’ve written two books, “Crossing The Line, The Julius Hall Story”, & “The Journey” my book of poetry. I will be starting on book 3 in a few weeks. Time has been my most important instructor. God’s Grace has been my greatest comfort.
