Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julius McClarin-Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Julius , appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
My self-discipline comes from putting the work in and seeing the results. For instance when you first start something the passion of thinking where it could take you is what fuels you so you’re motivated. Though, afterwards if you’re not seeing the results you would’ve thought came so easy you get discouraged. In those moments actually remembering exactly where you where before and your progress to now reignites your ambition on an energy of “Why Quit Now”. Here you are working towards what you wanted so you should know there would be adversities and it’s usually the ones who through the L’s they took as lessons eventually achieve success in the end. It’s all in your mindset.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a native of NYC but raised in ATL. Raised in a single parent home with my mom until the age of 18 as a single child. I’ve always been a loner it’s a solitude in that though I am cool with people from all different walks of life. I started my brand Paper Chasin Route Entertainment in 2020 mainly as my EP title but with inspiration from artist like Nipsey Hussle with TMC and Young Dolph with Paper Route Empire I realized the potential to make it more of a brand for myself. Instead of just being another artist I wanted to create a business for myself something that would last longer potentially if music didn’t work out in the long run. Lately I’ve been focused on building my brand as in promoting its credibility and learning the back ends of understanding business. From creating music, website designing, and networking my plate definitely has been full but if that’s what comes with it I’m grateful for the journey knowing I want to achieve generational wealth for my family in the end of it all. Which is a conversation I’ve never actually held with any of my own family. With new podcast episodes dropping Fridays 10 Pm on my podcast HIGHER HIGH POD, new music drops, more underground fight club wins and P.6.R. merch OTW, what is there not to be excited for with my brand. All I can really say is stay in tune with PCR Ent. my mark will be left when it’s all said and done.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Lately the skills and/or areas of knowledge I’ve noticed are most impactful in my journey have been patience, discipline, and self-worth. Patience being the most important now more so with understanding that things work on there time not mine. Even with me expecting to be ready at a certain point in my journey the most high knows for the level I want to achieve it’s more work to put in. It can be upsetting thinking you know “this is it I’ve figured it out” just for it to be another step in the process but again that comes with it. Discipline following after with me being an athlete and knowing even on the days you don’t want to put the work in you have to in order to succeed. Especially when it’s those days you know you pushed yourself that prove the standards and morals you stand on. Finally with self worth it’s simply knowing you are worthy of everything you set in place POSITIVELY for yourself. Know that you deserve it know that you worked hard for it. The advice I would give in my headspace now for folks early in their journey is know that you are 1 of 1 no limitation is your creator & no hater is seeing you greater you are your maker and this world is yours. Boundaries have been set and broken it’s all in your hands.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
A book that has played an important role in my development would be Steal Like A Artist by Austin Kleon. The most valuable point of wisdom I can make would be that you can learn or steal from anything or anyone in a sense of admiration towards someone courage, ambition, drive, determination etc. depending on how it pertains to you. It’s all a process of understanding what works for YOU.
