We recently connected with Julius Wade and have shared our conversation below.
Julius, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I think resilience is a characteristic I’ve spent my whole life being developed within whether I intended to or not, which just transformed into it being something I’ve embraced. I’ve been through a lot of things throughout my life time; from childhood trauma to career rejection, or being misunderstood by people around me. Navigating through those types of experiences can be challenging and discouraging at times, but one thing that I’ve learned is adversity really builds character. Overcoming life’s hurdles allows you to be reflective of where you’ve grown, embrace new knowledge about yourself or your surroundings, and it builds up your understanding of how you have the power to direct the course of your life’s desires no matter what you’re faced with. That’s what resilience has always been symbolic of for me.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Julius Wade, and I am an R&B Singer/Song-Writer from Miami, Florida(I’m currently living in Columbus, Ohio). I pretty much spend my time recording, and writing what I would like to consider heartfelt music that really reflects on the stories of my life’s experience, all while attempting to give listeners music that is substantial to making them feel good. Music is something I consider to be my escape from the world, and also my playground in a sense. Creating music just allows me to remain tapped into something that is a motivating way of self expression, a constant reminder of passion, and embarking on opportunities to entertain others. I have an upcoming music project coming out on 02/2/2024 titled “Midnight Nostalgia Volume 2”. I’m very excited about this project because it really embodies the energy of love, positivity, and setting intentions for what you’d like to manifest within your life. It’s a pretty colorful and soulful EP, so I’m excited to be putting this out to the public.
Aside from focusing on music, I work at a Drop-In Center for Homeless Teenagers & Young Adults in Columbus, Ohio. That’s an exciting feat for me as well, because this allows me to focus on supporting inner city youth, help them attain tools to lift them up out of homelessness, all while helping them achieve their personal goals. Creating music is something that feeds my soul, but giving back to my community is something instrumental within my self-fulfillment as well.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would personally say that three qualities that have been impactful within my journey is; Passion, Perseverance, and Self-Confidence. When pursuing anything you feel you desire, it’s extremely important to identify if you’re passionate about it or not. Passion is so necessary, because you’re going to need that as a motivator in moments where monetary or social influence is not as present as you’d like. Passion should be what drives you through life whether you feel as if you’re up or down.
Perseverance goes hand and hand with passion as well. It’s important to have the courage and gumption to continue to go after what you desire no matter what life throws your way. Perseverance allows you to thrive through adversity, disappointment or even rejection. Perseverance inspires you to push harder on manifesting your goals once you start to achieve the things you’ve always sought out to accomplish. Perseverance is reflective of consistency which is the key to anything you want to do in this life.
And lastly Self-Confidence, which is another thing that links with the other qualities I previously mentioned. Often times in your pursuits, many may not automatically believe in your dreams & goals until the see concrete establishment. Self-Confidence allows you to see beyond challenges, disbelief, or underestimation. It’s up to you to believe in what you want, invest in yourself through creative, educational, and monetary means. I advise everyone to be their own cheerleader, and give themselves admiration & grace.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I can honestly say that I have a great support system of family & friends around me that keep me grounded, motivated, and inspired to keep overcoming challenges to become successful. I owe a lot of credit to them for being a constant system of accountability and encouragement for me. It’s a great thing to be able to go to family or friends for great advice on career challenges, or to even have those check in sessions where you find relation to each other’s struggles. My family and Friends are very influential in the consistency I carry to go after my goals.
