Meet Juming Delmas

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Juming Delmas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Juming, thank you so much for making time for us today. We’re excited to discuss a handful of topics with you, but perhaps the most important one is around decision making. The ability to make decisions is a key requirement for anyone who wants to make a difference and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your decision-making skills.

At just 14 years old, I made the life-altering decision to leave my parents’ home. From as far back as I can remember, I’ve always had a critical mind—questioning the world around me, analyzing what I agreed or disagreed with, and imagining how I would do things differently. When I left home at such a young age, I had the chance to put that mindset into action.

School wasn’t my top priority at the time—I often skipped classes, not out of rebellion, but out of necessity. My focus was survival. I was constantly on the move, working wherever I could, just trying to carve out a life for myself. Every decision I made had weight; the people I surrounded myself with, the late-night shifts I took, even the long bike rides home in the middle of the night—all of it shaped who I am today.

Looking back, I realize how fortunate I was in the choices I made. The instincts and resilience I developed at 14 never left me. In many ways, that same survival mindset has carried over into my adulthood, shaping how I approach life and decision-making. I believe that if I could trust the younger version of myself to navigate such a difficult path, then I can trust the adult version of me to continue making the right choices.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Juming Delmas: Elevating Voices, Stories, and Impact Through Media

At my core, I am a storyteller. Whether through film, podcasting, or advocacy, my mission is to create spaces where authentic voices are heard and impactful stories are told. My work spans multiple creative and social initiatives, each serving a unique purpose but all tied together by one central theme: empowerment.

Juming Delmas Studios (JDS)

Juming Delmas Studios (JDS) is an award-winning film production company that has been recognized globally, with over 15 film festival selections and 40+ awards. We specialize in cinematic storytelling, podcast production, and social media marketing. Right now, we’re expanding our services to help businesses and individuals develop high-quality podcasts, treating them with the same level of production as a television show. Our goal is to become the go-to production company for independent creators and brands looking to amplify their voices through digital media. Moving forward, we’re focusing on partnerships, original film projects, and offering more hands-on services for content creators who want to grow their platforms.

I’m Just Here to Listen Podcast

I’m Just Here to Listen is more than just a podcast—it’s a space where unfiltered conversations about Black entertainment, culture, and industry dynamics unfold with a mix of sarcasm, humor, and real talk.

Recently, we’ve added a new and exciting element to the podcast: virtual rap battles. This interactive segment gives rising artists a platform to showcase their talent, battle against other creatives, and gain exposure in front of our growing audience. By incorporating this into our content strategy, we’re not only engaging our followers but actively helping amplify the voices of emerging artists.

Right now, we’re actively growing our presence on social media, pushing engaging short-form content, and bringing in high-profile guests to give our audience the inside scoop on the industry. The goal is to hit 200+ Patreon subscribers by the end of the year, offering exclusive content like extended episodes, behind-the-scenes moments, and even short films.

Infinite Spectrum

Infinite Spectrum is an initiative close to my heart, focused on supporting families and individuals within the autism community. We are working on expanding our programs to not just raise awareness, but provide tangible tools and certifications that help families navigate societal barriers. This year, we’re rolling out new skill-building programs and partnerships to ensure that those on the spectrum are equipped with opportunities for success.

Looking Ahead
Each of these projects represents a different piece of the puzzle that makes up my creative and business journey. Whether it’s through film, podcasting, or advocacy, my goal is to uplift voices that are often overlooked. I want people to know that authenticity matters, and if you have a story to tell, we’re here to help you share it with the world.

We’ve got major collaborations, new projects, and innovative content strategies in the works—so stay tuned. The best is yet to come.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The Habits That Shape My Success

Over the years, I’ve learned that success isn’t just about talent or opportunity—it’s about building the right habits. Three of the most valuable lessons I’ve embraced are the power of reading, the importance of focused time, and the ability to learn from others’ mistakes. These habits have shaped not only my mindset but also the way I approach business and creativity.

The Power of Reading

I’ll be honest—reading wasn’t always something I enjoyed. But now, I can’t imagine where I’d be without it. The benefits go far beyond just gaining knowledge. Reading sharpens the mind, sparks creativity, and serves as a form of relaxation. What’s interesting is that some of my best ideas don’t even come from the specific subject I’m reading about. The simple act of immersing myself in a book often triggers a new perspective or creative insight.

When people ask me what my downtime looks like, I always say three things: a book, a cigar, and a glass of wine. That’s my perfect moment of unwinding and inspiration.

The Art of Focus
Focus is one of the most underrated skills in today’s fast-paced world. Some of the most successful people—billionaires like Bill Gates—credit their ability to focus as their greatest superpower. I’ve learned to set aside time each day for uninterrupted focus, even if it’s just 15 to 30 minutes. No phone, no TV, no distractions—just a moment of stillness.

Creativity flows best when the mind is clear, and that’s why I prioritize these moments. It’s not about how long you do it; it’s about making it a habit. That discipline has helped me in both business and life.

Learning from Others’ Mistakes
One of the biggest lessons I learned early in my business journey was the importance of marketing. About two years into running my company, I realized that marketing is the single most important department. Why? Because if people don’t know you exist, they can’t buy from you. No matter how great your product or service is, awareness is everything.

I once had a meeting with a potential client who had been in business for over ten years. She told me she had never invested in a marketing team, and as a result, she was only making enough to get by—never enough to truly scale. When we discussed our services, she told me she could only afford about $100 a month for marketing. That moment hit me hard. A decade in business, and the budget for the most crucial part of growth was just $100?

That conversation became a major motivator for me. I made a promise to myself: if I ever found myself in business for ten years and could only afford a few hundred dollars for marketing, I’d go back to working a regular job—because for me, business is about scaling and growth, not just survival. That’s why I believe in hiring the right people early, even when you think you can do it yourself. Entrepreneurship isn’t about working in the business forever; it’s about building something that works for you.

Moving Forward
These habits—reading, focus, and learning from mistakes—continue to shape my journey as an entrepreneur. Every day, I strive to grow, innovate, and build something that lasts. At the end of the day, I’m not just in business to work—I’m in business to create, impact, and expand.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

Finding the Right Fit: Our Ideal Client

This is such an interesting question—most people might say, “Anyone who’s willing to spend money.” But for us, it’s about more than just making a sale. One of the greatest advantages of running a business is the ability to shape a culture, create a dynamic work environment, and collaborate with people who truly align with our vision.

In marketing, understanding your ideal client is crucial. These are the people you can see yourself working with long-term—people who are approachable, collaborative, and aligned with your creative process. For us, the perfect client is someone who:

Values creativity and is open to fresh, innovative ideas.

Understands the importance of marketing but doesn’t want to handle it themselves.
Is doing something impactful in their community and wants to focus on their mission while we take care of the branding, strategy, and digital presence.
We affectionately call these clients our “Digital Darlings.” They’re passionate about their work, they trust us with their vision, and they appreciate the role marketing plays in their success.

I can confidently say that I’m grateful for every client we have today. We’ve been intentional about building a strong client base that aligns with our culture, making the creative process more enjoyable and productive for everyone involved. Of course, that wasn’t always the case. In the early days, we took on clients just to make a quick dollar—but we quickly learned that not every client is the right fit. Letting go of mismatched clients was a tough but valuable lesson. Now, we focus on working with people who truly resonate with our approach, and that has made all the difference.

Being intentional about who you work with isn’t just about having an easier time—it’s about building a successful, sustainable business that thrives on meaningful collaborations.
