Meet Juni Mukherjee

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Juni Mukherjee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Juni, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Looks aren’t as big of a deal as they seem.

While creating a bouquet of flowers, you could do so with all red roses or throw some yellow, pink, white, ivory, peach, orange, lavender, green, blue, and black ones in the mix. You could add other varieties of flowers of different colors, shapes, and sizes. Each kind brings joy and uniqueness to the collection.

Similarly, when buying potatoes, you could select a batch of the same skin color, or you could select an assortment of yellow, white, red, and purple. They’ll all contribute to making your dish delicious.

Regarding DIBS (diversity, inclusion, and belonging), you already belong on this beautiful planet. As far as the room is concerned, be yourself. Make your contribution, small or big, and enjoy your learnings.

Last but not least, looks can be deceptive. Don’t get distracted by appearances. You’re beautiful just the way you are.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Juni Mukherjee, and I am the founder of PalUpNow!. I leverage my experience in product, technology, finance, and business, to improve lives.

PalUpNow! is an online marketplace that connects people, who need assistance on flights and rides, with pals. Sign up for Basic and get matched! Upgrade to Premium and give your consent for us to pull your background check and motor vehicle record.

The PalUpNow! platform is designed to be franchisable, and we operate out of service areas. We’ve hired pals (the supply side of this equation) to build out our organization. What’s exciting is that we strive to honor Conway’s Law, and our organization follows our architecture. Not the other way around.

Kaushiki Sen is our Director of Business Operations in Ontario, Canada. Sourish Sen is our Area Manager in Mississauga, Ontario, and the incoming Area Manager of Ottawa, Ontario. Sreeja Sen is succeeding Sourish as the incoming Area Manager of Mississauga. Our pals love to serve their community, especially underserved members.

We’re growing. At the time of writing, we’re operating in other parts of the world and ramping up brand-new service areas.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I rely on my inner self to:

1. Unlearn and learn.

2. Be happy. After all, happiness is a choice. No W(h)ine Club for me.

3. Minimize the time I spend on social media, and maximize the time I spend with Mother Nature.

My only advice would be to love yourself dearly. There’s only one YOU!

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
It’s better to be well-rounded. Requirements evolve, and today’s strengths may not be relevant tomorrow.

For work, I invest in cutting-edge tech and have witnessed the revolving door of state-of-the-art technology in Silicon Valley and beyond.

In my life, I’ve had the ultimate privilege of raising a 9-week-old baby, who I found abandoned in the SF SPCA shelter (San Francisco Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). My playful and beautiful boy helps me develop new skills and tone my latent motherhood muscles.
