Meet Junie Abito

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Junie Abito a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Junie, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My purpose has been intentional from the very beginning. In my earlier stages of my career as a therapist, it was difficult to find a mentor that looked like me or understood and respected my cultural roots. This motivated me to create an intentional space where women of color therapist could come to heal, grow and empower one another. Thus, Rose Junie Therapy was created a space is where women of color can meet themselves with authenticity, strength and value.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a mental health group practice, our primary focus is on serving the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community in Los Angeles and virtually in California. Our client base predominantly consists of people of color who share and resonate with our ethos. We provide mental health services to children, individuals, couples, and families, ensuring that our support and care are inclusive and accessible to a diverse range of clients. We are paneled with major insurance companies including Cigna and Aetna and offer sliding scale services to assist the needs of the community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As I look back, what truly made a difference in my journey was making a conscious effort to hold onto my values and always leading with my “whys” when it came to growing my business. My greatest strength lay in approaching leadership with transparency, courage, and empowerment, and I’ve made sure not to lose sight of that along the way.

My advice to those who are in their early stages of their journey is to remember your “why’s” and to lead with intentionality. Lastly, remember to hold on to the belief that you are deserving, capable and worthy.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I make the effort to find different levels of quiet/silences daily. I have found throughout the years that I make better decisions and able to be grounded when I allow myself to settle. Imagine one of those DIY sensory bottles, the ones filled with water and glitter. My day often feels like that sensory bottle when shaken. When I silence myself and find calm, the glitter settles to the bottom and I feel that I am able to find integration, peace and intentionality in my work.

My advice is to embrace an activity that you already enjoy and make it a regular part of your routine. Whether that means finding moments of peace, getting into some daily exercise, or connecting with friends/community for support.
