Meet Junior Luna

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Junior Luna a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Junior, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

Creativity can come from many different places for me, but I think the main driving factor in keeping that creativity alive is knowing that I’m just barely scratching the surface as a musician and as an artist. Knowing that I’m at maybe 5% of what I’m capable of doing in the future and knowing that I have SO much to learn keeps me motivated to just constantly expand my skill set and expand my creativity.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Although, like most artists, I don’t like to be boxed into any one space, I’m an indie rock musician and a DJ. My goal as an artist is to create a common space for people of all different backgrounds. Whether you like indie rock, cumbia, house music, or whether you grew up in LA or in the middle of nowhere, the whole idea is that there’s space for you.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I can’t stress enough how important failure is. Failure is everything and learning how to react to failure is everything. I’m just barely starting to tap into my potential, and still yet I know how much failure is still to come. I’d also like to stress the importance of just being a compassionate person. People want to help other people who treat them with respect. Another important thing, as cliche as it sounds, is to just enjoy the journey. You can still aim to shoot higher and get better every day, but if you’re not also acknowledging your progress and achievements then you’ll never be satisfied.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

I truly wish everyone was forced to read the Four Agreements in school because that book has done so much for me, not just in relation to music, but in life. My favorite theme from it is to “Always Do Your Best” because you do owe that to yourself. As an artist, I can dream of all the achievements in the world, but if I’m not setting goals and keeping myself accountable, then I’ll never reach those achievements.
