Meet Juniper Johnson

We recently connected with Juniper Johnson and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Juniper, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
Taking a break. Genuine, mindful time away from my personal/professional art has done so much for my effectiveness. Sometimes we feel like we have to stick through a project which can lead to rushing or frustration, and it’s not necessary. For self-care I’ve been really into audiobooks on self help, journaling, and just existing outside. Not to sound funny, but touching grass works wonders.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m an independent filmmaker, copywriter, and avid wearer of the color green. I do commissions for portraits and agency advertisements. I’ll be releasing prints of my documentary and editorial work through my website in February.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Definitely ambition and persistence were the most impactful, and continue to be the most impactful. There are so many people who project their own fears onto creatives because they don’t see themselves accomplishing something that you want. But I had to remind myself that their fears don’t exist. There’s no tangible proof that something couldn’t work out, so you have to be the proof that something could.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
In the past 12 months it’s really been about finding balance. I get so distracted on social media sometimes, and get in my head about where I should be because my peers are doing drastically different things. But then I remembered that every time I’m out of a situation I perceived as terrible, I romanticize it later. I wish I could be in certain circumstances because I know how to maneuver it now. So, now, I think about what future me would be telling current me. She’d probably say regardless of what’s happening outside, manage and improve on what’s inside.
