We recently connected with Justice Simmons and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Justice, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
I personally try to greatly prioritize self care. I also try to build my days/weeks in a way that supports how my brain actually works instead of constantly pushing against it. That looks like having routines & rituals, taking breaks before I’m already overwhelmed, and giving myself the permission to slow down when I need to. I’ve noticed a significant difference when I set goals and create time and space for myself.
Prioritizing my mental health has made me more effective in many ways. I’m more present, more patient, and more emotionally regulated, which directly impacts how I show up for my clients. When I’m grounded and regulated, I’m able to create better work, communicate more clearly, and hold a safer, calmer space for the people I work with 🙂
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I work in two fields that may look different, but are actually deeply connected: tattooing and professional home organizing/decluttering. Through my tattooing business, Ink by Justice, I create intentional tattoos in a calm, affirming environment. Tattooing is an intimate experience, and what excites me most is helping clients feel safe, grounded, and confident while creating something meaningful on their bodies. I also spread a little joy by offering free smiley face tattoos to all clients that I have the pleasure of meeting.
Through my organizing business, Room to Breathe, I help people declutter and create spaces that support their mental health instead of adding to their stress. I approach this work with zero judgment and a lot of compassion. Many of my clients feel overwhelmed or stuck, and watching the shift happen when they can finally breathe in their space is incredibly rewarding. We are currently offering holiday specials! 🙂
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three most impactful things in my journey have been emotional awareness, adaptability, and trust-building.
Understanding my mental health and nervous system helped me create work that’s sustainable instead of burnout-driven. My advice is to learn your patterns early and build around them, rather than constantly pushing through overwhelm.
Adaptability has been essential in both tattooing and organizing. Things won’t always go as planned, and being willing to learn, adjust, and grow matters more than being perfect. Stay curious and give yourself room to be a beginner 🙂
Finally, trust is everything. Clear communication, consistency, and leading with compassion have shaped my client relationships and my confidence. Focus on being reliable and honest and prioritize showing up for yourself and your clients.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, absolutely!! I LOVE collaborating and am always open to partnerships that feel aligned and/or community-focused. For tattoos, I’m especially interested in guest spots, vendor events, and opportunities that allow me to travel and connect with new audiences and places 🙂
With Room to Breathe, we’re actively looking to grow our community and partner with other small businesses in meaningful ways!! We love working with realtors, local business owners, and anyone who supports clients through big transitions. We also offer commercial organizing, not just residential, and recently partnered with a local thrift store, Flipstone, which has been a really exciting collaboration!
If you’re interested in working together, the best way to connect is through Instagram or by reaching out directly through our websites.
