Meet Justin Flakes

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Justin Flakes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Justin below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Justin with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic came from my parents. Both of my parents worked multiple jobs while my brothers and I were growing up. They maintained those jobs, made sure meals were cooked, transported us to after school activities and made sure we were oblivious to the negative outdoor influences that surrounded us in our neighborhood. Watching my parents showed me what hard work looks like. I emulate that to this day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the owner of B-Fit Universal: An adaptive fitness company that aims to improve fitness for students and adults with disabilities through play and fun games. Currently, we offer multiple sports camps, free workout sessions and personal training. I work with alot of clients who are on the autism spectrum. In the future, we plan to launch a new fitness facility and mobile training.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience: Nothing happens over night. It took awhile to find my niche in the fitness industry, but when I did, I started and never quit.

Resilience: Finances matter. The economy runs on money and you but frustrated with start up costs. Do what you can with what you have and trust that the rest will come in time.

Persistence: Do not take no for an answer. You will have doors shut on you and it will be hard finding opportunities at the beginning. Be persistent in creating your own lane and knocking as many doors down as you can.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am definitely in search of collaborations with people who share the same passions I do for students and adults with disabilities. Currently, I have networked with some in the local communities, but I am always looking for other opportunities to expand. Connections can be made at justin.flakes@bfituniversal.com
