We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Justin Griffith aka Grades Of Absolute Truth. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Justin below.
Hi Justin, thanks for sitting with us today to chat about topics that are relevant to so many. One of those topics is communication skills, because we live in an age where our ability to communicate effectively can be like a superpower. Can you share how you developed your ability to communicate well?
For the most part, it comes down to caring, effort, and constantly wanting to improve myself.
Other things that are a part of my philosophy…
• words hold weight, so choose wisely
• don’t send, then read; read twice, then send
• all interactions sculpt perspectives
The biggest contribution to my effective communication is from teaching. The need to explain things as simply as possible is key. It prevents confusion, frustration, and wasting time. The shorter and more concise the message, the better in most situations.
It also helps to not think you’re right all the time. If there’s ever a miscommunication, look for a mistake on your end first. Then you can avoid the situation next time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My calling is to impact the world in a positive way through music. I do that through releasing meaningful music, performing regularly to build community, and sharing my knowledge through teaching (elementary school and private lessons). Versatility is important to me, so I’m a mutt. I don’t neatly fit into boxes and don’t believe in staying dedicated to a specific genre. Overall, I represent progression and purposeful movement.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1) CONSISTENCY: Be active, work on your craft regularly, and commit to producing whatever it is you’re offering to others.
2) ORGANIZATION: Without this, it’s hard to keep intentions clear. Have a goal and keep it in your crosshairs.
3) BEING GENUINE: Don’t chase trends or fads. Be yourself and accept that some people won’t like you or whatever you offer.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
From there, begin the attack…
One.
Thing.
At.
A.
Time.
Marking off an item feels productive and should motivate you to continue killing the list. After you complete something, actively try to delete it from your brain.
