Meet Justin Moore

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Justin Moore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Justin, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My parents are a big part of that. They really pushed me at a young age to realize that I had to work hard for what I wanted. They were vital in helping me develop this in all sorts of ways: school, sports, extracurricular activities like Boy Scouts, you name it. I wanted to work harder than the person next to me, no matter what it was throughout life.

It has translated to how I am as an adult as well. I am in Sales, and fortunately enough, that aligns well with my personality and upbringing, as I will never be outworked.

My mom and dad had to work hard for what they got in life, and they made sure to pass that trait down to their three sons.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a kid from Cincinnati, Ohio, born and raised. I grew up in an area called Colerain Township. We are mainly known for our football, German heritage and. I am one of three boys, and I am the oldest. My brothers are significantly younger than me, so it made for interesting challenges growing up…I was too big to beat up on them, and some of my youngest brother’s friends told me that I was his dad since I was 13 years older.

I attended the University of Cincinnati and graduated with a degree in Communications. I was fortunate enough to play football for a couple of years as well, walking on before the 2007 season. After graduation, I worked at a YMCA in my local community, where I was able to continue to give back to the community that poured so much into me as a youth.

A year or so after graduation, I was able to find a career with a start-up company, Scenario Learning. They are an Ed tech company that serviced K12 and Higher Ed organizations with employee and student training. I found my calling and got into Sales here and later management. I have been with the organization for over 14 years now and love what I do! Our motto is “safer, smarter, better” and I truly feel like our solutions are helping to do that for educational organizations around the country.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Work Ethic – You have to work hard for what you want, it won’t just be handed to you. It is important to work as hard when no one is watching you, as you would if someone was standing in front of you.

Respect – To gain respect, you need to give respect. You cannot go around being difficult to be around or not a team player and expect your colleagues, manager, or anyone in life to respect you. Being respectful is an easy thing to do.

Be Coachable – You are not a finished project, be able to take coaching. The feedback you receive will be helpful for your growth in whatever area you focus in. If you aren’t coachable, you likely aren’t growing and getting better as an individual.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

My parents let me grow and figure things out, become an adult without holding my hand all the time. Don’t get me wrong, my parents definitely looked out for me, but they also taught me valuable lessons when I needed to hear them, disciplined me when I needed to b,e and let me go when I needed to figure something out on my own. All of these things are impactful and something that has helped me develop but also shown me what I should be doing for my own children as well.
