Meet Justin Titchenell

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Justin Titchenell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Justin below.

Justin , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I’ve always had to work hard to improve my skills. From a young age, starting as an athlete, I was never the most naturally gifted, but I was always one of the hardest workers. Despite my drive, my lack of natural talent led to self-doubt when I didn’t hit my goals or perform as well as my peers.

This self-doubt affected other areas of my life, including communication, public speaking, and social interactions.

It wasn’t until I began pushing myself outside of my comfort zone in high school that I started developing confidence. I’ve always enjoyed challenging myself. One of the earliest examples was joining the student council in high school. Over the years, I have purposefully pushed myself beyond what I thought I was capable of, from taking the risk of starting a business to turning down conventional job opportunities to work at my family business, giving me the flexibility to pursue my own venture.

In the end, I am proud of the path I chose because of the invaluable lessons I’ve learned. The experience of working hard and pushing beyond limits can be applied to any aspect of life. The most impactful lesson I’ve learned is the value of delaying instant gratification for the larger prize. This requires high levels of confidence and the capacity to “show up” every day.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m thrilled to share a bit about my journey and what drives me professionally. Currently, I serve as the President of CoachTools, where I’m passionate about leading our team with a vision to transform the coaching landscape. Our platform is designed to empower coaches and athletes alike, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to see our innovative solutions make a real difference in the industry. The most exciting aspect of this role is the opportunity to blend strategic thinking with practical application, all while staying deeply connected to the needs and aspirations of our users.

In addition to my work with CoachTools, I’m a principal at BVTLive!, Philadelphia’s top live musical entertainment agency. Working alongside my father, Kurt Titchenell, has been a rewarding experience. Together, we’ve taken BVTLive! to new levels, constantly pushing the envelope to deliver unforgettable live music experiences. What makes this role particularly special is the chance to combine creativity with business acumen to elevate events and performances, making them truly memorable for our clients and their audiences.

My background also includes a strong educational foundation from Gettysburg College, where I majored in Organization and Management Studies and Business. Being awarded the 2021 Gettysburg College Entrepreneurial Fellowship grant was a significant milestone that underscored my commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship. These academic experiences laid the groundwork for my current ventures and have been instrumental in shaping my approach to leadership and business.

Athletics have always played a crucial role in my life, from high school achievements in football and track to my collegiate football career at Gettysburg College. Even after college, I’ve continued to challenge myself physically, transitioning from competitive sports to long-distance running. Completing my first half marathon at the Rocky Run in Philadelphia last year was a personal highlight.

Looking ahead, we’re excited about the new developments on the horizon for both CoachTools and BVTLive!. At CoachTools, we’re working on some innovative updates that we believe will further enhance our platform’s value for coaches and athletes. And at BVTLive!, we have some thrilling new events and collaborations in the works.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Reflecting on my journey, I’d identify three qualities that have been particularly impactful: resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning.

1. Resilience: Throughout my career, resilience has been crucial in overcoming challenges and setbacks. Whether it was recovering from a serious injury in college or navigating the ups and downs of launching and growing CoachTools and BVTLive!, staying resilient has allowed me to persevere and maintain focus on long-term goals.

Advice: Embrace setbacks as learning opportunities. Cultivate a mindset that views obstacles as stepping stones rather than roadblocks. Developing resilience involves building a support network and maintaining a positive outlook, even during tough times.

2. Adaptability: The ability to pivot and adapt has been essential, especially in the fast-evolving fields of technology and entertainment. In the world of live music and coaching, trends and needs shift rapidly, and being adaptable has enabled me to stay ahead of the curve.

Advice: Stay curious and open-minded. Embrace change by continuously seeking new information and perspectives. Flexibility in your approach and a willingness to learn from different experiences can help you navigate and thrive in dynamic environments.

3. Continuous Learning: A commitment to lifelong learning has been a key driver of my growth. Whether through formal education, professional experiences, or personal interests, staying informed and expanding my knowledge base has been vital.

Advice: Prioritize personal and professional development. Seek out mentors, take courses, read widely, and stay engaged with industry trends. The more you invest in learning, the more equipped you’ll be to innovate and lead effectively.

For those early in their journey, developing these qualities involves a proactive approach to personal growth. Surround yourself with supportive individuals who encourage resilience, be open to change and new ideas, and never stop learning. These strategies will not only help you navigate challenges but also position you for long-term success.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

One of the most influential figures in my journey has been my dad, Kurt Titchenell. As the President of BVTLive!, he’s been an extraordinary mentor and source of inspiration, particularly when it comes to overcoming challenges and continuously evolving in a rapidly changing environment.

Kurt’s leadership has been especially pivotal during the COVID-19 pandemic, which completely stopped the live music industry. When live events came to a halt, BVTLive! faced unprecedented challenges. Because of Kurt’s resilience and forward-thinking, the business came back better than ever in 2021. He adeptly navigated the shutdown by seeking new ways to engage clients and audiences, including virtual showcases. His ability to pivot and find creative solutions during such a tumultuous time was a testament to his adaptability and vision.

Beyond handling crises, Kurt has consistently demonstrated a knack for identifying and seizing opportunities. He’s always been adept at reading the market and evolving with the times, whether that means playing new songs or exploring fresh approaches to event planning. This adaptability has not only helped BVTLive! thrive but has also provided invaluable lessons on staying agile and proactive.

For me, witnessing Kurt’s ability to turn challenges into opportunities and his commitment to innovation has been educational. His guidance has instilled in me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning—qualities that have been crucial in my own professional development.
