We recently connected with K. Larru and have shared our conversation below.
K., so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I wasn’t always confident. In fact, I grew up being extremely shy, and to be honest, I still carry some of that with me. But joining the military was a turning point in my life. I’ll never forget the day I met Drill Sergeant Skids. He was loud, bold, and fearless; the exact opposite of how I saw myself at the time. From the very first day we crossed paths, I told myself. That’s who I want to be.
Being in that environment forced me out of my comfort zone. Little by little, I pushed myself to speak up, to stand tall, and to trust my own voice. Watching someone embody such strength and confidence gave me a blueprint, and eventually, I started to see those same traits in myself.
That experience built the foundation of my confidence and self-esteem. It’s something I still carry with me today. Whether I’m publishing books, running my editing business, or speaking with readers, I lean on that inner voice that was shaped during my time in the military. It reminds me I can show up boldly, even if that shy girl is still inside me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Professionally, my focus is two-fold: my career as an author and the growth of my editing business. As K. Larry, The Urban Romance Princess, I’ve published over 20 novels in almost seven years. What excites me most about writing is how stories can transport readers into a world that feels real. My readers often tell me they recognize the locations I include in my books or that they’re looking for my male main characters in real life. For me, that’s what makes my work special; it’s not just entertainment, it’s a connection.
Alongside writing, I also run K. Larry Editing & Proofreading Services. That work allows me to help other authors polish their manuscripts without losing their unique voice. I know how hard it can be to share your words with the world, and I want to make that process easier for others by encouraging and supporting them through the editing stage.
Right now, I’m focused on expanding my reach as an author by continuing to publish relatable, heartfelt stories that prove love has no boundaries. I’m also growing my editing business and taking on more clients, which is exciting because it means I get to uplift even more voices in the literary world.
What I’d love for readers and potential clients to know is that everything I do, whether it’s writing my own novels or helping someone else shape theirs, is built around authenticity, passion, and connection. That’s the heartbeat of my brand.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities have been the most impactful in my journey: resilience, consistency, and authenticity.
Resilience was crucial because writing isn’t always easy. I’ve faced moments of doubt, tough reviews, and even times where I wondered if I should keep going. But learning how to push through and not let one setback define me has kept me moving forward. My advice to anyone starting out is to accept that challenges will come, but don’t let them stop you. Treat them as part of your growth.
Consistency has also been key. Publishing over 20 novels in almost seven years didn’t happen overnight. I made it a habit to write regularly, even when I didn’t feel inspired. For new writers, I’d say focus on building steady habits, because small, consistent steps add up to big milestones.
And finally, authenticity. Readers connect most when stories feel real. I’ve had readers tell me they felt the emotions pouring off the page or that they saw themselves in my characters. That happens because I write with honesty, not just what I think sounds perfect. For those starting their journey, my advice is to lean into your own voice. Don’t try to sound like someone else; your uniqueness is what will set you apart.
One more piece of advice I’d add is to be open to constructive criticism, even when it stings. I’ve had reviews that hurt my feelings, but instead of quitting, I used them as tools to come back stronger with the next story. If you can learn from feedback without letting it break you, it will only make you better.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My publisher and mentor, Twyla T., has been the most helpful in my journey. She’s always just a call or text away, and her support goes beyond encouragement; she gives me endless feedback that pushes me toward continuous growth.
What I appreciate most is that she doesn’t just tell me what I want to hear. She challenges me to stretch myself as an author, to refine my craft, and to keep raising the bar. Having someone in my corner who truly believes in me, but also isn’t afraid to push me harder, has been invaluable.
Her mentorship has played a huge role in helping me develop the skills and confidence I needed to be successful, and I’m grateful for her guidance every step of the way.”
