We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kacie Anderson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kacie below.
Kacie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
I have always looked at every negative or uncomfortable situation as a challenge. When I’m placed in rooms where I am the only one that looks like me, I see it as my time to shine! No one is me regardless of what they look like, so I really try to own my unique perspective and I always exude confidence and self-assuredness by knowing myself and knowing what I bring to the table. Growing up in Stockton and being born into such a diverse family I have been blessed to be surrounded by people from all walks of life and so I know the importance of being true to yourself and finding strategies that work best while also contributing to a more inclusive and diverse environment, whatever environment that might be at the time.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Of course! I currently work in Brand Partnerships at Epic Records. It allows me to tap into my creativity and music industry passion while getting the opportunity to forge longstanding relationships with well-known brands. These collaborations can have a significant impact on the visibility and success of the record label and our artists. For example, it can directly impact the careers of artists by helping them secure lucrative brand partnerships, endorsements, and exposure which could play a part in advancing their music careers and that is hella exciting to me.
Every day I get to collaborate with different departments within the record label, such as A&R, marketing, sync, and pr, and work as part of a team to achieve shared goals. I have never worked for a more collaborative and supportive company in my life. From our legendary CEO, Sylvia Rhone, to our incredible coordinators. It’s rare.
I have the wildest ideas and everyone in my Epic family is like, “That’s cool, let’s do it”.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities and skills that were and still are most impactful in my journey is first and foremost, being a good human. Just be a good compassionate human, yeah know? You should always be open and willing to learn new things and experiences and finally, being knowledgeable in strategic thinking. Some advice I’d give is to Invest in your education and yourself! Never stop learning your craft and practicing and sharpening whatever it is you’re passionate about. A big one would be to cultivate your networking abilities: attend industry events, connect with professionals in the field you want to get into, and nurture all of your relationships.
In addition to all of that, it’s super important to maintain a strong work ethic and to be dedicated AF to your journey and always be true to yourself.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
I am crazy about my parents. The most impactful things they did for me was to provide me with love, support, and a safe environment for me to be myself. They taught me that education, independence, and confidence are things people can’t ever take away from you. Today, they are my biggest support system and cheer me on daily. I was pretty damn blessed to be birthed to Loye and Donna Anderson, let me tell ya! Lol
