We were lucky to catch up with Kae Ricketts recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kae, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My work ethic and resilience have really come together to form my purpose. I would say my parents were my first source of inspiration as they taught me what hard work and dedication looked like basically from birth. My mother has been a living example of the ability to shape shift, show up and get stuff done. She had a career deeply rooted in service and helping others (I refer to her as a saint). But she was also an entrepreneur on the side, well before this side hustle culture was a thing, and before I even knew what entrepreneurship meant. She was a philanthropist in a very non-traditional sense, and while juggling ALL of these things, she was still a very dedicated mother, going out of her way to expose my brother and I to experiences and activities that she felt would benefit us and make us more well rounded human beings. So much of who my mother is has shaped who I am becoming as a woman and a mother.
Coming into adulthood, my inspiration evolved and became far more complex. Transitioning to college life on an academic scholarship I faced struggles with learning differences that resulted in me being placed on academic probation. During that probationary period away from school, I got pregnant with my son, which coincidentally gave me a sense of purpose and direction that had been lacking in my life. Despite the odds being against me, I was determined to finish my degree. He was three months old when I crossed the stage at graduation and I often refer to him as my reaSON. He is honestly what keeps me going.
A few years after overcoming those challenges, my husband’s cancer diagnosis, three year illness and ultimate passing taught me so much about resilience and to truly value the time and the people that we have in our lives while we have them. He was my biggest supporter and I know he would be so proud of all that I have accomplished over the years.
While overcoming adversity has become an (unintended) specialty of mine over the years, I feel that my experiences have put me on the path of my purpose. My next undertaking is simple: to use my skills, expertise and experiences to inspire others to be their unapologetic, goal-getting, don’t-put-me-in-a- box selves while celebrating their ability to show up authentically in the spaces and places that they operate in each day.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My goal is to use my skills, expertise and experiences to inspire others to be their unapologetic, goal-getting, don’t-put-me-in-a- box selves while celebrating their ability to show up authentically and be successful in the spaces and places that they operate in each day. I give back by sharing what I wish I had learned sooner, and building the resources I wish that I had.
This has looked like naming (and celebrating) that very common feeling of being pulled by passion in multiple directions though The Multifaceted Mama line. It has looked like providing tools to help others speak positivity into their situations and manifest the Multifaceted lives of their dreams through my affirmation card deck. This has looked like coaching and consulting with heart centered individuals around career planning, business strategy, and navigating everyday life. This has looked like amplifying inspiring stories and conversations through my podcast. This has also looked like curating events that foster authenticity where attendees can show up as their true self and find their tribe.
Through all of my work, I noticed that finding community is a struggle. Friends and family mean well, but when they’ve only ever experienced working the typical 9-5, they really cannot relate to entrepreneurship and the highs and lows that come along with it. That’s why I’m so excited about The Multifaceted Entrepreneurship Community. This is a collaborative community for heart centered entrepreneurs to come together and strategize on our business, career, and personal development. Members of our collective are dedicated to launching, innovating, and growing our businesses and our impact. We have curated a space where we can come together and collaborate; sharing ideas, experiences, and strategies to navigate obstacles as we work towards our goals.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say that the most important qualities would have to be agility, resilience and self-awareness.
The first two go hand in hand. Being able to remain flexible, change course, adapt accordingly and keep going is incredibly invaluable. Life is going to life! There’s not getting around that… so you have to learn to roll with the punches and adjust accordingly.
The ability to acknowledge and accept the fact that you may be the problem or your own limiting factor is close behind. The first step in forming any successful strategy is to have a clear understanding of the current state. That reflection of what’s working and not working should absolutely begin and end with YOU.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
My biggest challenge is the fact that entrepreneurship is NOT for the weak, if you know… YOU KNOW! Choosing this lifestyle means minding your business and focusing your energy on the things that matter most – your entrepreneurial pursuits. But this journey can be a lonely place to exist, and that’s why it’s important to find your tribe. Leaning into the power of community, collaboration and knowledge-sharing, I am looking to curate a space where entrepreneurs can come together to support one another, share feedback and amplify impact for ourselves and our businesses by sharing resources and opportunities while leveraging a wide variety of experience, specialties, and areas of expertise.
Whether you’re just getting started with an idea or you’re established in your business, this will be a safe space to connect with like minded entrepreneurs who support each other.
