Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaela Robertson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kaela, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Whenever I’m faced with a situation like this, I’ve chosen to flip the script and allow the perceived adversity to empower me. I understand that I very may well be the only person of my background, upbringing, & even physical appearance! Knowing this, I amplify my voice to bring unique insight & ideas to the group in order to achieve our goals together. This in itself builds my confidence & makes the little girl inside of me that was once shy & timid, very proud.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Maneuvering through the complexities of what the year 2020 brought to the world, I was determined not to let it control my fate. Upon coming to the revelation that I did not want to attend a traditional college right now, came my realization that my dream career had taken a backseat to my life simply because I was under the impression that “it wasn’t a real job”
In the winter of 2021, I graduated my esthetics program of 750 hours in Plano, TX. I spent my 1st year out of school working at a Med Spa called Hide Away Spa & Salon as a Facialist, educating myself on the different types of skin & increasing my product knowledge through sessions with my clients. I am currently Lead Esthetician at a Full Body Wax & Skin Care Boutique for a woman-owned local business called The Bush Waxing Boutique! While working here I’ve gained the titles of Spray Tan artist, manager, full body waxer, & I’m currently working on becoming a Dermaplane Professional!
My passion of caring for my client’s facial skin did not stop when I moved into the wax room, it just transformed. This summer I’ve been cooking up something special with my boss babe mentor! A special offer that will give busy men AND women that want to improve their skin the chance to do so without leaving their homes! For more information on website & product launches, it would mean the world to me if you’d follow my journey via Instagram @thebush.kaela.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back at my journey, these three qualities stick out to me the most:
Adaptability, Boldness, & The Willingness to be a student over & over again. Aka being coachable. In this industry, rules, trends, & desired appearances change daily. So being able to update or tweak your service in order to fulfill clients needs change right along with that! My advice to young Esthies is to be open to change but stick to your chops!

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is the man or woman who is willing & ready to change their skin for the better! That person who is tired of trial & error when it comes to drug-store brand cleansers & heavy moisturizers. I want to help boost your confidence & self-esteem through recommending you the products specifically for your skin type. If you are short on you time but willing to take 5-10 minutes a day to improve the appearance of your skin? I have just what you need!
