Meet Kaelyn Tweed

We recently connected with Kaelyn Tweed and have shared our conversation below.

Kaelyn , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Finding my purpose started with not having true having purpose. Purpose by definition can be a “sense of determination or a reason from something existing”. I believe in my core values that God created me for a purpose. My purpose has many different reasons; but my deepest purpose started from wanting to be close to Jesus and mirror my life to follow him. I am far from perfect in my purpose and have failed many times. But, my life lately feels full of purpose from grace.

My purpose in business started with a very difficult decision of opening my salon with very little money or help. The situation around opening Halo Salon was messy. Messy in a way it could have been a lifetime drama movie. I feel like you have to truck through a lot of muddy ground to get to the green grass and in that you do find purpose.
I have now been in business 7 years, 8 years this April 2025. I started by myself behind a chair and now that business has generated over a million dollars and employees a full time employee. I am currently actively looking to purchase a new property to grow the salon. The purpose of growth now is to accommodate the clientele we have served. To create a place for women to come and enjoy themselves and feel valued. I have created a culture and that has been the true purpose. God has allowed me to help transform women through my craft and it has been a special experience to be a part of.

In part of determination of purpose; I believe my internal determination has come through all the obstacles I have faced. I didn’t have an ideal childhood, I started trading time for money at sixteen with working in tanning salons. In the younger part of my life I thought money was the “purpose”. Money has a lot of purpose but it isn’t fulfilling of purpose without the things in your life that make it whole. My purpose and determination is driven by my belief system, and my family. I have always wanted my children to have a life they don’t have to recover from. A life that they can find their purpose without it being through pain. My husband has shown me love, and given me a beautiful purpose of our family. We both faced many challenges to get to this point but like I previously said the challenges give us the drive. It is sometimes hard to see that, because it’s easy to get stuck in your circumstances. Getting out of them is where the magic happens.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

When I received an email about doing this interview; I actually am actively home on six weeks of maternity leave. I gave birth to our son on January 27th, 2025. I have three lovely children. My oldest is my bonus Daugther who is 16, my middle is our 8-year-old son and now our last and final little boy. Life is busy.
My latest focus was supposed to be on enjoying maternity leave and soaking in these moments. But, I think the true blood of a creator and purpose driven entrepreneur never quits. It is hard to delay things that are on your heart. During my maternity leave I have been actively seeking a property to move my current salon to. I am in negations right now through real estate, and am hoping that this is the property for us. If that is the case it will be a “hit the ground running” type of situation on my return which is March 10th.
My family is such an intricate part of my business. During Covid I created a private label to sell in my salon to clients in order to differentiate my salon and branding from others. That brand is KBE (knack beauty essentials) KNACK is an acronym for of course (my family). Kinsey(Daugther), Nolan(son), Aaron(husband), Christ(belief system) and Kaelyn.. now with our newest son it will be for Kohen instead of my own name.
Professionally while I have been on maternity leave. I have had interviews with potential employees, dealt with the bank regarding financing, actively negotiating potential property and still running my current location without being behind the chair. I dealt with a scare after giving birth of post eclampsia and it made me realize even more life isn’t promised, if you always wait until your “ready” you’ll be waiting forever you have to go for it. For me in this process, I surrender a lot of my decisions through my business through prayer and talks with my husband. I believe when things like expansion and large purchases are for you, you will know. You don’t have to fight it, it will happen. I am sure not everyone feels this way, but that is how operate.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1.        Work ethic
2.        People skills
3.        Discipline
My advice to other people early in the journey of purpose or entrepreneurship is to always be able to put yourself in other people’s shoes. You need to be able to evaluate what other people need especially in any service based business and be able to provide on that. Being able to communicate effectively is key, and having a work ethic that will empower you to break through barriers will get you there. Discipline of not giving up and drive to keep going.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal salon client is first the most obvious; someone that needs their hair done or likes to take care of themselves. Sometimes some of the best clients are women that haven’t taken care of themselves and you help transform them. Self care is also a little sign of self love. We cater to majority of clients that are women. That ideal client respects your professional opinion, wants to make their outer beauty match their inner beauty and create confidence. They are kind, respectful and ideally are aged between 25-65.
