Kafilat , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from God, my struggles, and my dreams. My faith reminds me that even when I feel weak, I am not walking alone. The challenges I’ve faced from living with PCOS to heartbreaks,dissapointment,and the ups and downs of running a business
It shaped me into someone stronger and more patient. And my dreams keep me moving forward,they remind me that there is more to my life than the pain I’ve experienced.
Holding on to faith, learning from struggles, and chasing my dreams are the three things that give me the strength to rise again, no matter how many times I fall.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the founder of K_berry Cakes, a small but growing baking business in Lagos Nigeria, where I create custom cakes, daily treats, pastries, and food trays. What makes my work special is that every order is made with intention whether it’s a simple cupcake or a grand celebration cake, I see it as more than food.
For me, it’s about creating experiences that make people feel joy and connection.
Beyond baking, I am also exploring my journey into fashion and styling. I’ve always been drawn to creativity,
But I find it difficult to know my style yet and now I’m slowly figuring out my own style in the fashion space using it as a way to express my personal individuality, resilience, and beauty. It’s exciting to watch both sides of my creativity grow one through flavors and the other through fashion.
Right now, I’m focused on expanding my brand by reaching more people through social media, and I’m also working on developing unique cake designs and styling projects that reflect not just trends but personality and meaning. In addition, I plan to further my skills by attending a masterclass and studying cakes and pastries at a higher institution. This upgrade will help me improve my craft, learn modern techniques, and elevate the quality of what I offer.
For me, K_berry Cakes and now fashion styling aren’t just creative outlets, they are platforms where I get to combine passion, creativity, and resilience into something people can both experience and feel.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I would say the three most important qualities in my journey have been RESILIENCE, CREATIVITY , and SELF-BELIEF.
RESILIENCE was essential because life will test you through health struggles, personal setbacks, or business challenges. What helped me was learning not to see failure as final but as feedback.
My advice is: “Don’t expect resilience to appear overnight. Build it through small daily acts of consistency and by reminding yourself that challenges are part of growth”
CREATIVITY gave me the ability to adapt and express myself. Whether through baking, fashion, or finding new ways to grow my brand, creativity kept me from feeling stuck.
For anyone starting out, I’d say “Nuture your creativity by experimenting, staying curious, and not being afraid to try things outside your comfort zone”
SELF-BELIEF tied it all together. There were times I doubted myself, but learning to silence fear and trust my vision made all the difference.
For beginners, my advice is: “Don’t wait for external validation. Believe in your ideas, start small, and let confidence grow from action”
These three qualities:resilience, creativity, and self-belief continue to shape my journey and keep me moving forward.
