Meet Kai Kevin Goh

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kai Kevin Goh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kai Kevin, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I still remember how I felt every day back in middle school — an antsy kid still being dressed by his mom, who only wanted to be liked by his peers, and would move in whatever direction he believed would increase his chances of approval.

I think this kid still resides within a lot of us. But I think my first taste of self-confidence came from one particular act: exploring things I felt particularly curious about.

For me, these would be things like drawing, anime, dance, videography, and most recently FPV drones.

It didn’t matter if people thought I was nerdy, or misguided. I would spend hours, days, weeks of my year going down rabbit holes, learning more about them and figuring things out.

By immersing myself in these deep interests of mine, seeing what value I could contribute to the world around me with my newly developed skills has always been the #1 driver for developing confidence.

When you find things like these for yourself, hold on tight and pursue them relentlessly. By the time you remember to look up again, you’ll surprise yourself how far you’ve gotten, and how much confidence you’ve gained on the way there.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
The latest skill I’ve immersed myself in has been piloting FPV drones so that I can add a soaring, rollercoaster-like perspective to videos of my clients as well as my own.

However, I see the grand goal for my work is not to be “the drone guy,” but ultimately to show others how to share their perspectives in the most impactful way possible.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
If I had to choose which 3 areas of knowledge attribute to the majority of my success, it would have to be:

1.) Mindfulness
There is a great quote from Winston Churchill: “When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.”

Think about your mind like a GPS and windshield of your car. If it’s dirty, unattended and uncalibrated, getting where you want will be extremely difficult.

By calibrating your mind through things like meditation, journaling and exercise, the clarity you gain in your mind will hyper-drive your path to reaching your goals.

2.) Communication
Knowing how to communicate is the difference between people scrolling past your content, or captivating thousands of people with a single.

It didn’t come natural to me, but by studying the masters, I’ve gradually become better at communicating through speaking and video, and the results have shown themselves. I’d recommend watching Tony Robbins, Tim Ferriss, and Casey Neistat on YouTube to start.

3.) Business
Regardless if you’re trying to start your own thing or find a well-paying job, you will be exponentially more valuable if you understand business principles. Practice rapidly testing ideas, gauging interest, and measuring value. Make videos, see what you could have done better, see what went well, and iterate (it’s free!)

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love working with people who are constantly seeking to improve themselves, and the world around them.
