We were lucky to catch up with Kai Strachan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kai , great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
Growing up in The Bahamas, surrounded by a vibrant culture and individuals unafraid of taking risks, I naturally cultivated my own ability to embrace uncertainty. My mom played a pivotal role in shaping this trait, instilling in me the importance of stepping outside comfort zones. Her resilience and fearless approach to challenges became my guide. Through various experiences, both in the Bahamas and beyond, I learned to view risks as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. The island’s dynamic environment, coupled with the influence of risk-taking role models, fostered a mindset that values innovation and bold decision-making. This journey has not only molded me into a risk-taker but has also enriched my perspective on life and its myriad possibilities.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Embarking on the journey of an actor, content creator, and model, I embraced the ethos of starting from the bottom, determined to carve my own path. Instead of waiting for opportunities, I became the architect of my creative destiny. As my own creative director, I take pride in crafting distinctive content that reflects my unique voice and perspective. Every project is an opportunity to innovate, pushing boundaries and avoiding the conventional. This approach not only defines my artistic identity but also fuels my passion for storytelling. The process of creating something truly unique has been both a challenge and a source of fulfillment, driving me to continuously explore new realms within the realms of acting, content creation, and modeling. I have had the privilege of working with iconic brands such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, Starter, and MLB. Additionally, my keen enthusiasm in filmmaking has resulted in the creation of over 10 short films, recognition at The Bahamas Film Festival (BIFF), and participation in a Tyler Perry TV pilot that earned acclaim at the Essence Festival in 2023. I also was featured in British Vogue magazine for their a December issue.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In my transformative journey, three qualities – faith, patience, and confidence – proved to be the guiding lights. Faith fueled my belief in the unseen, providing the strength to persevere during challenging times. Patience served as a steadfast companion, reminding me that success often requires time and unwavering dedication. Confidence empowered me to take bold steps and navigate uncertainties with poise. To those at the early stages of their journey, my advice echoes the essence of trust and perseverance. Trust in a higher power, trust in yourself, and diligently work towards your aspirations every day. The journey may seem daunting, but the key is to adopt a “can’t stop, won’t stop” mentality. Starting is the hardest part, but once you initiate the journey, momentum follows. Stay committed, trust the process, and don’t relent until you’ve achieved your goals.
