Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaila Lessier. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kaila, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Overcoming imposter syndrome has been one of the most personal and difficult battles in my journey, and there have been countless moments when I questioned what I was doing, where I was headed, and what my true end goal was. I found myself doubting my abilities, even when others believed in me, and it was a heavy feeling that kept me from fully embracing my progress and achievements.
What has helped me through this is taking a step back and reminding myself of my worth. I had to remind myself that everything I’ve accomplished, no matter how big or small, came from hard work, faith, and persistence. I’ve worked hard for everything I have, and that’s something I can be proud of. I also leaned on my faith, staying close to God and trusting that He has a plan for me. Prayer and reflection gave me the strength to quiet the doubts and embrace my purpose, and staying grounded in my beliefs and keeping hope alive has been what keeps me going, even when the road seems uncertain. Hope fuels my perseverance, reminding me that anything is possible as long as I stay true to my path.
I am so grateful to my family for always being there to lift me up, and my mom, Charniece, and my grandmas—Grandma Georgia (RIP) and my G-Mama—along with my aunt, have shown me what true strength and resilience look like. My mom taught me to keep going, no matter what challenges come my way, and to trust that I’m capable of more than I even realize, and my Aunt Terrevia has been such an inspiration—especially in her real estate journey, where she continues to break barriers and accomplish what others might think is impossible. Her courage and drive motivate me every day to keep pushing toward my own goals.
My dad has also played a huge role in helping me stay grounded, constantly giving me scriptures to read and encouraging me to keep Jesus first. His words of wisdom remind me that no matter what I face, I can find strength and direction in God’s word. His guidance has been a light in my life, helping me navigate challenges with faith and purpose.
My sister Meka has also been a constant source of support, and she’s always there for me, no matter what, and her belief in me has made all the difference in overcoming self-doubt. My sisters Mikayle and Myshia, who are both great parents, have inspired me with their strength, work ethic, and relentless drive to achieve their goals, and watching them balance family and ambition has shown me that I can do the same.
Having such a strong support system from both my family and friends has been a huge part of my ability to push through self-doubt, and these people have always been there to encourage me, remind me of my worth, and help me stay grounded in the belief that I am capable of achieving anything I set my mind to. They’ve shown me that no dream is too big and that the journey is just as important as the destination.
I also want to recognize my little cousin Tyreese, who continues to beat all odds and inspire me with his determination and strength.
Young Cory and Mall have always instilled in me that I am great and that I will be big one day, and they’ve consistently reminded me of my potential, lifting me up in those moments when I needed it the most. Their belief in me, their constant encouragement, and their faith in my abilities have pushed me forward.
I can’t forget Leggs, a friend from college who has always believed in me and motivated me to just go for it, even when I wasn’t sure I could, and he’s always there to remind me of my talent and push me to step out of my comfort zone. Smooovee, an artist I went to college with, has also been a source of inspiration. We recorded “New Day” together about five years ago in his dorm room—one of my first songs ever—and at the time, I had no clue what I was doing, and he was out there grinding, making music every day.
And my church family Joon, David, Ashton Gray, Indi, Eli, Tyra, Av Hamilton, Famous Jaymous, Sierra, and Hez—they all inspire me in different ways, and watching them live their dreams and chase after what they want with determination pushes me to be better. They’ve shown me that dreams don’t come true by waiting around for them—they come true by working for them every single day.
I say all of these names to emphasize that I am not doing this alone, and if I missed your name and you’ve supported me or encouraged me to keep going, please know that you are just as much a part of helping me discover who I truly am in this thing we call life.
As my song “Balance” says, If you rush it, you’ll ruin it—so I’m not to rush it, and I’m taking things day by day. I am doing it, and I will continue to do it until I achieve everything that’s been placed on my heart.
I’ve got dreams, and I’ve got the strength to keep pushing forward—no matter what. Every step I take, no matter how small, is part of the bigger picture, and I’m learning to honor that, to celebrate the process, and to trust that everything I’m working toward will come together in time.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in entrepreneurial management at Clark Atlanta University, and what excites me most about this chapter of my life is the realization that I am just beginning to step into my purpose. Every step I take feels like a meaningful part of a larger story—a story that’s still unfolding—and I am filled with hope and anticipation for what lies ahead. Everything I do, I approach with my whole heart, driven by genuine passion and a desire to inspire and connect with others in a way that leaves a lasting impact.
As a student, I am actively building relationships and gaining experiences that are shaping not only my professional future but also my personal growth. These moments—whether in the classroom, through networking, or during hands-on projects—are laying a foundation for the life I envision. By the time I graduate with my master’s in 2026, I plan to have my juicing truck for Juicing With Soul up and running.I want to create a space where people can nurture their well-being and feel connected to something meaningful. My hope is that this truck will serve as a stepping stone to establishing a brick-and-mortar location, a place where community, health, and soul come together.
Entrepreneurship is only one of the paths I’m passionate about. My background in broadcast journalism, which I pursued at Langston University, has given me a voice and a platform. After graduating, I had the opportunity to attend CBS Television City in Los Angeles, California, where I gained invaluable hands-on experience in television production. This experience deepened my love for storytelling and sparked a desire to host and share meaningful stories with the world. I can’t wait to explore this passion further and connect with audiences in authentic and inspiring ways.
Music, however, has always been at the core of who I am. It’s my way of expressing the deepest parts of myself. I dream of my music career blossoming—starting by singing background vocals and writing songs for other artists, and eventually stepping into my own spotlight. This journey has been shaped by incredible opportunities, including attending the prestigious 1500 Sound Academy under the guidance of James Fauntleroy and Rance Dopson. Their mentorship taught me not just about music but about perseverance, dedication, and staying true to my artistry. I also had the privilege of receiving vocal lessons from Larry “Pops” Dopson, whose encouragement and expertise helped me find confidence in my voice. None of this would have been possible without the generous full scholarship I received from YouTube Music, which was a blessing that I’ll forever cherish.
Every one of these experiences has prepared me for the road ahead, and they remind me that each step—no matter how big or small—is part of a larger purpose. I am deeply grateful for the people, opportunities, and lessons that have guided me to this point. The future fills me with excitement because I know that I am walking toward my dreams with faith, resilience, and a clear vision.
I am determined to stay true to myself, to honor the values that shaped me, and to inspire others as I continue pursuing the things that set my soul on fire. Whether through entrepreneurship, media, or music, I will pour my heart into everything I do, trusting that all the pieces will come together in time. With unwavering faith and a spirit of determination, I’m ready to embrace every challenge and opportunity that comes my way.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on everything I’ve been through, there are three qualities that I can confidently say have shaped my journey more than anything else: soul searching, resilience, and determination. These aren’t just words to me—they’re the foundation of everything I’ve worked for and everything I continue to strive for.
Soul searching has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. It’s more than just reflecting on my past; it’s about going deep within to understand who I truly am, what I stand for, and what I want to achieve in this life. There’s something powerful about that moment when you truly get to know yourself—the good, the bad, and everything in between. Soul searching has given me the clarity to stay focused, the courage to make difficult decisions, and the wisdom to follow my heart. It’s been the compass that guides me through both the light and dark moments, helping me trust my journey even when I don’t have all the answers.
Resilience has been just as vital. Life doesn’t always go according to plan, and the setbacks I’ve faced have been tough. There were times I thought about giving up, questioning if I was even on the right path. But resilience taught me that every setback is a setup for a comeback. Every challenge has been a lesson in disguise, teaching me to rise stronger, wiser, and more equipped for the next phase. Through those moments of doubt and difficulty, resilience has been the inner strength that reminded me to keep going, no matter what.
And determination—that’s been my driving force through it all. It’s what’s kept me moving forward when the road was unclear, when the obstacles seemed too high to climb. Determination isn’t just about working hard; it’s about having an unshakable belief that you’re meant to reach the destination, no matter how long it takes or how many hurdles you have to jump over. When things got tough, when I wanted to quit, determination kept me pushing forward. It’s been the fire that’s fueled my drive to keep going, even when it felt like I couldn’t take another step.
If I had to offer advice to anyone starting their own journey, I would say: take the time to really get to know yourself. Know your strengths and weaknesses. Understand your values and what truly drives you. Self-awareness isn’t just important—it’s essential. When you know who you are and what you’re about, you can walk into any space with confidence, no matter how unfamiliar it may seem. You’ll be able to face any challenges with clarity and purpose because you’ll be grounded in the truth of who you are.
And most importantly, stay true to the people who have supported you from the beginning. Life will throw all kinds of people and distractions your way, but it’s the ones who’ve been there through the highs and lows who will remind you of your purpose. They’ll keep you grounded when the world tries to pull you in a million directions. These people—your family, your friends, your mentors—are your foundation. Cherish them, lean on them, and always make sure to be there for them in return.
For me, staying close to God has been the anchor through it all. I make sure to seek His guidance with every next step I take, trusting that He knows what’s ahead even when I don’t. In a world that’s constantly moving, it’s easy to get lost in the hustle, but when I stay connected to my faith, it brings me peace and clarity. No matter how much ambition I have or how far I want to go, I always make sure that God is at the center of it all. His guidance is what keeps me on the right path, even when it’s not the easiest one to walk.
At the end of the day, it’s not just about chasing dreams or achieving success—it’s about staying true to who you are, staying connected to your faith, and keeping the right people close. The journey might not always be easy, but it will always be worth it. Every step, every challenge, and every victory is part of a greater purpose. I’ve learned to embrace it all, to trust that every part of my story is leading me exactly where I’m meant to be.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m definitely open to collaborating with passionate, driven individuals who are committed to creating something meaningful. I recently moved to Atlanta and am eager to connect with others in the production and music world, as well as explore acting. There’s so much potential here, and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead.
Being from Los Angeles, I’m still deeply connected to that city and open to collaborations there as well. I can easily make a quick trip if the right opportunity comes up. To me, collaboration is about building something genuine and supporting each other’s growth.
If you’re someone who’s dedicated to their craft and believes in putting in the work to make things happen, I’d love to connect. Feel free to reach out through my social media or send me a message directly. Let’s create something special together.
