Meet Kaitlin Files

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kaitlin Files. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kaitlin below.

Kaitlin , thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?

I have learned the power of self worth. Once you master validating yourself from the inside, not by relying on other people’s thoughts or opinions of you, you become a different kind of powerful. As I evolve over the years by learning a lot of life lessons, the opinions of others do not hold the same weight they once did. Daymond John taught me to always consider the source before giving weight to any advice or opinion.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I own a law firm that represents injured workers’ against insurance companies. It doesn’t sound very exciting. And maybe it isn’t. But you cannot calculate the feeling of bringing some ease to a suffering human. I’ve cried delivering good verdicts to my clients who were barely making it through each day. The RELIEF and JOY they shared with me were immeasurable. At Files Law, we strive to ease our clients’ suffering every day as best we can. We are a small law firm, unique in the way we communicate with our clients. Our firm is very active in the community – our clients know us outside the firm. I built the firm to be local neighborhood lawyers you can trust to take care of their clients and give back to their community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Empathy, bravery, humility.

You will never have understanding if you lack empathy. If you want to be successful, consider other perspectives, not just your own. Human existence is collective and collaborative. Walking a mile in someone else’s shoes will teach you invaluable lessons about yourself, others, and the world we all share. It will teach you to respect everyone even if you don’t agree with them.

You must be brave and push yourself outside your comfort zone to grow. Staying safe is staying stagnant. Be brave – you can do it.

The most important part of making mistakes is not the mistake – it’s the lesson learned. I have made a lot of mistakes in my life, and I will continue to make many more. I take my mistakes as learning lessons and grow from them. One of the best things I learned was how to put my ego to the side and admit I was wrong, incorrect, or ignorant about the topic – and then better myself.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

They pushed me to achieve. Why settle when you can be 1% better every day? They instilled in me the desire to better – better myself, better the world around me. You should leave everything you come in contact with better than how you found it – people, spaces, etc.
