We recently connected with Kaitlyn and have shared our conversation below.
Kaitlyn, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
As a teacher and content creator, I truly believe self-care is one of the most important tools. Having a routine where I focus on one thing mentally, physically and emotionally each day has been helpful. Whether that be journaling, going for a walk or unplugging from social media when I need to. Continuing to do things that help me feel my best self help me to also show up as my best teacher self. I have found that through self-care I have become more patient, more present and more creative.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hi! I’m Kaitlyn, a 2nd grade teacher, content creator, podcast host, and the face behind My Classroom Diaries. I create uplifting, relatable, and real content for teachers and women in their 20s who are navigating life, burnout, growth, and everything in between. My goal is to remind people they’re not alone and that they can build a life they’re obsessed with—even during the chaos.
What’s most exciting to me is the community we’ve built. It’s not just about classroom tips or teacher humor (though there’s plenty of that!), it’s about connection, encouragement, and showing up for each other. I love creating spaces—online and in real life—where people feel safe, seen, and inspired.
I’ve published a children’s book filled with affirmations, a journal for all ages, and started a podcast that feels like a FaceTime call with your favorite bestie. Right now, I’m working on a 4-week course for teachers focused on becoming their best selves in and out of the classroom—covering classroom management, confidence, wellness, and joy.
If you’re looking for motivation, realness, and a reminder that you’re doing better than you think—you’ve found your people 💛
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three most impactful things on my journey have been:
Authenticity – Staying true to who I am, even when it felt scary. Whether I’m teaching, creating content, or sharing my story, I’ve learned that people connect with real. The more I leaned into that, the more doors opened and the more aligned everything felt.
Consistency – Not overnight success, but everyday effort. Whether it was showing up for my students or posting online when no one was watching—being consistent built trust, growth, and confidence.
Community-building – I’ve never wanted to just have followers—I’ve wanted to build a family. Creating safe spaces where people feel seen, supported, and inspired has changed everything. That sense of connection has made this journey feel way bigger than me.
My advice to anyone just starting out?
✨ Be yourself—even when it feels easier to copy someone else.
✨ Just start. You’ll learn and grow as you go.
✨ Focus on impact over perfection. One post, one connection, one kind word can change someone’s day.
✨ And surround yourself (even virtually) with people who remind you what you’re capable of.
Your journey doesn’t have to be loud or perfect—it just has to be yours. 💛
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I’d travel everywhere—places I’ve dreamed of and places I’ve never even heard of. I’d chase sunsets, swim in oceans, and collect memories like souvenirs. I’d spend weekends road-tripping with my wife, visiting family, and dancing at concerts like no one’s watching.
I’d keep teaching, not just in schools but through every conversation, every post, every connection. I’d pour my heart into helping others feel seen, loved, and reminded that their story matters.
I’d laugh so hard my cheeks hurt. I’d say “I love you” way more. I’d write more books, create more things that matter, and leave behind words that help people long after I’m gone. I’d build a life so full of purpose and joy that even the ordinary moments felt sacred.
And every morning, I’d wake up with gratitude. Not because life was perfect, but because I got the chance to live it—fully, loudly, and with love at the center of everything. 💛
