Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaitlyn Fensterer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kaitlyn, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?

Self-care is something I take very seriously, especially since it directly impacts my effectiveness both personally and professionally. For me, self-care means a combination of practices like a dedicated skincare routine, Pilates, and monthly massages. These activities help me recharge physically and mentally. Taking the time to wind down when needed has been incredibly helpful in maintaining balance and focus.

As an esthetician, I’ve come to realize that self-care isn’t just important for me—it’s essential for the well-being of my clients, too. I encourage them to prioritize their own self-care routines because I understand how much it contributes to their overall health and happiness. But I also believe that to truly inspire others, I need to lead by example. If I’m not taking care of myself, it’s difficult to authentically encourage others to do the same. It’s about being in alignment with what I’m advocating for, and when I make time for self-care, it allows me to be more present and effective in my work with clients.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a professional makeup artist and licensed esthetician specializing in bridal beauty and skincare. I help brides and clients look and feel their best by focusing on skin prep before weddings and special events, ensuring a flawless, long-lasting makeup application.

What I love most about my work is the transformation—not just in how my clients look, but how they feel. Whether it’s a glowing bride on her wedding day or someone indulging in a facial, my goal is to enhance their natural beauty and boost their confidence. I take a very hands-on approach, guiding my clients every step of the way and answering skincare questions, I’m always accessible and here to help them achieve their skin goals.
I strive to create a warm, welcoming experience where every client feels their best in their own skin. From expert makeup to personalized skincare, I’m here to be their beauty BFF!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

One of the most impactful qualities in my journey has been my commitment to professional development. The beauty industry is constantly evolving, with new skincare treatments, product innovations, and makeup techniques emerging all the time. I prioritize continuous learning through advanced courses, industry events, and staying up to date with trends. This not only sharpens my skills but ensures I provide clients with the best possible advice and services. For those starting out, I’d recommend investing in education early, whether through formal training or hands-on experience and always staying curious about industry advancements.

Another key quality that has shaped my journey is building strong client relationships based on trust, reliability, and approachability. Clients seek more than just a service, they want someone who listens, understands their needs, and offers honest guidance. I create a welcoming space where they feel comfortable sharing their concerns, whether about skincare or bridal makeup. By being consistent and attentive, I’ve built lasting relationships where clients know they can turn to me for expert advice. For those starting out, I’d stress the importance of active listening and clear communication, when clients feel heard and valued, trust naturally follows.

Creativity has also been essential in my journey as an esthetician and bridal makeup artist. I love keeping the client experience fresh and exciting by designing new facials each month and introducing seasonal specials like a Pumpkin Spice Facial in the fall or a Spring Renewal treatment. These customized experiences not only keep clients engaged but also allow me to explore new techniques, products, and trends. Creativity gives me the freedom to tailor treatments to different skin needs while making self-care something clients truly look forward to. For those starting out, I’d encourage them to embrace innovation, experiment with new ideas, and develop a signature approach because a fresh, creative perspective keeps clients coming back.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I take a step back and prioritize. Staying organized and managing my time effectively helps me stay on track, and I use my calendar and scheduling tools to avoid overextending myself.

Self-care is just as important for me as it is for my clients. Whether it’s stepping outside for fresh air (with SPF!), enjoying a quick walk, or having a quiet moment alone, I make sure to recharge so I can show up as my best self.
