Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaitlyn Johnston. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kaitlyn, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
As an artist it’s important to realize the mistakes you’ve made and correct them. Being able to do so really helped me build my confidence in my work. What’s really helped my self-esteem would be my mentor kika and my fellow artist that I work with. My family and Fiance have done nothing but support me and have given me the push I needed to challenge me self with my work.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a fine line tattoo artist here in San Antonio at Masterminds tattoo. I’ve been here for 6 years now I specialize in fine line but have a vast variety of styles that I offer! I strive to make every client of mine comfortable and happy with the work they get I am known to be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to tattooing and most of my clients are appreciative of it. If you have a budget you’re wanting to stay in I will gladly work with you!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Having a background of drawing really helped me get into the tattoo industry I never really knew what all it would take to become a tattoo artist. Kika the owner at masterminds tattoo had seen my potential and saw that I was enthusiastic about leaning and that helped me have the courage to give it a shot! Being able to retain and use the knowledge that you are given while learning the basics of tattooing really helped me to this day I still use the tips that were shared with me. For anyone who is starting their journey in tattooing TRUST THE PROCESS!

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
You never want to be stagnant in one style as a tattoo artist. Mastering a style is always a good thing but being able to offer different styles also helps the artist with having a variety of tattoos they are able to do. As of right now I am getting more into mandalas and Neo traditional tattoos. I strive to be able to give my client any style that they want! In the tattoo industry no one is ever done learning there will always be something new to learn or something you can improve.
