Kajohnae, thank you so much for joining us today and appreciate you talking about a sensitive topic. It’s unfortunately relevant to so many in the community as layoffs have been on the rise recently, and so we’d appreciate hearing your story and how you overcame being let go?
Getting fired is never easy, especially when you know the termination was unfair. However, when I was let go from Target, I felt an unexpected sense of relief. It was as though a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Rather than wallow in disappointment, I took a step back and reflected on the situation.
I remembered the prayers I had whispered for years—the prayers to become my own boss, to create my own hours, to achieve financial stability, and to work without being micromanaged. Suddenly, it became clear: perhaps losing my job was not a failure, but the push I needed to pursue what I had been asking for.
I realized that God had been redirecting me all along, closing doors that didn’t align with my greater purpose. Losing that 9-to-5 wasn’t the end; it was the beginning of something much greater. I embraced it as a sign to prove to myself—and anyone who doubted me—that I could create my own path to financial security, independence, and success.
Looking back, that termination wasn’t a setback. It was a blessing in disguise, pushing me to take control of my life and commit fully to my dreams. Sometimes, we need the right doors to close so we can finally walk through the ones meant for us.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
24K Haircare Products is a natural and organic haircare line designed to address and cure common hair issues without the use of harsh parabens or chemical-laden prescriptions. Our mission is to provide a healthier, natural alternative for people seeking solutions to scalp and hair concerns, while promoting overall hair health.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are patience, resilience, and strategic thinking.
1. Patience – Building a brand takes time, especially when you’re committed to doing things the right way. There were moments I wished I could move faster, but I’ve learned that rushing often leads to mistakes. Trusting the process and allowing things to unfold in their time has been invaluable. My advice: embrace the journey and celebrate small wins along the way. Patience isn’t just about waiting—it’s about using that time to grow and refine your craft.
2. Resilience – Entrepreneurship comes with challenges, setbacks, and moments of doubt. Resilience is what helped me push through those tough times and stay committed to my vision. For anyone starting out, I recommend focusing on your “why.” When you have a clear purpose, it’s easier to stay motivated, even when things get difficult.
3. Strategic Thinking – Success isn’t just about hard work; it’s about working smart. Researching, planning, and making informed decisions have been critical to my growth. Whether it’s identifying the right people to pitch my brand to or selecting the best ingredients for my products, being intentional has made all the difference. My advice: Take time to educate yourself, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to seek guidance from mentors or experts in your field.
For anyone early in their journey, I’d also say: don’t be afraid of mistakes—they’re some of the best teachers. Stay focused, be kind to yourself, and remain open to learning. You don’t have to have it all figured out right away; just stay consistent and committed to your vision.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My boyfriend, Frederick Witherspoon, has been an incredible source of support and encouragement throughout my entrepreneurial journey. From the moment he discovered my passion for creating haircare products and saw how much they benefited people, he’s believed in me wholeheartedly.
Frederick has always ensured that I stayed focused on my vision, even during tough times when I felt like giving up. His unwavering faith in me reminds me of the support my father would have shown if he were still here, and for that, I’m deeply grateful.
He has not only been emotionally supportive but also contributed financially whenever he could to help my brand thrive. Frederick always made sure I invested my time wisely and never let the competition discourage me from pursuing my dreams. His words of encouragement and constant reminders to “think big and never settle” have pushed me to aim higher than I ever thought possible.
Frederick is more than my partner—he’s my number one cheerleader and the person who has stood by my side through every step of this journey. I truly appreciate his love, faith, and unwavering belief in my success.
