We were lucky to catch up with Kaleisha Walker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaleisha , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Finding your purpose takes intentionality, work, effort and searching. For me, it was a long, soul-searching journey to find my purpose. I was able to find it via a myriad of ways.
God. First and foremost, I was able to find my purpose through God, spending time with Him, asking Him, talking to Him, praying and patiently waiting for Him to respond. I would ask God for concrete signs to help me discover my purpose, what His will is for my life. Once you’re aligned with your purpose, the Lord will open doors for you, put your name in rooms, and present opportunities that afford you the opportunity to live fully in your purpose.
People. God intentionally placed people in my life, my path, to help me find my purpose. It’s as if God sent those angels/messengers to deliver a Word to me, to give me a sign, to help push me into my purpose, etc. Never underestimate the reason, the power, the purpose God purposefully places people in your life; it’s for a divine purpose.
Listening. Active listening has also played a role in helping me to establish my purpose. Did you know, more than likely, at least one friend and/or stranger has already told you what your purpose is, hinted at it, or given you a sign? In retrospect, I’ve realized friends told me through conversations what I’m good at, what my purpose is, etc., but I just didn’t know it at the time. When you have genuine conversations with people, I encourage you to actively listen to them because they could be inadvertently telling you your purpose. This is a simple tactic that helped me and that can help you, too.
Exploring. Exploring new things and hobbies, and working different jobs have helped me to identify my purpose. If you keep trying new things, jobs, it will help you to know what you like and don’t like, which can help lead you to your purpose and passion.
Self-reflection. Self-reflection has played a vital part in my purpose-finding path. You have to ask yourself real, raw, reflective questions. Some of the questions I asked myself are as follows:
1) Who is Kaleisha Walker at her core?
2) What brings me happiness, joy, peace, fulfillment?
3) What am I good at, what are my strengths, skill sets?
4) What are some things that my family and friends have routinely approached me about to get my help, advice, etc.?
5) What can I do that will be pleasing to God?
6) What is my why, and why?
7) When will I be content, fully fulfilled and feel like I’ve reached my full potential, all my dreams and goals?
8) Where does the future Kaleisha want to be (professionally and personally)?
9) Why do I want to do this or be that?
10) How can I make a difference and be an inspiration and impact to people, to the world?
If you ask yourself the 5 “W” (who, what, when, where, why) questions – plus the how question – this can help you discover your purpose and passion.
My path has taken me from fast food to retail to radio to marketing to the entertainment industry. And the entertainment industry is where I ultimately found my purpose and passion. I loved the other jobs, especially my radio and marketing jobs. But when I started working in the entertainment sector, it was a different kind of love and passion; it was an unexplainable feeling. This is also how I knew I found my calling, my purpose, and was living my purpose.
In the past, I’ve worked countless jobs in the entertainment industry for free, and, for me, this was one clear sign, an indicator, this was my purpose and passion. Because when you do what you love and don’t mind doing it for free and on a daily basis – and you still get joy and fulfillment from it – this is one surefire way you can determine your purpose and passion. As the adage goes, if you do what you love, you never work a day in your life. You work differently and passionately when you truly do what you love. When you finally find your purpose, you have this newfound peace, happiness, joy and fulfillment.
If you’re still trying to find your purpose and passion, I encourage and challenge you to keep searching and never give up. And remember, you’re never too old to find your purpose. If it’s any consolation to you, I was in my late 30s when I found mine. I have absolute faith you can and will find yours! Relentlessly and unapologetically pursue your passion and purpose – on purpose!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Qualities, skills and knowledge are important and play an integral role in your journey. But I’m choosing to focus on qualities. The three qualities I feel have been the most impactful in my journey are as follows:
1) Being a Christian woman, a woman of faith/lover of God/Jesus.
2) Being a woman of integrity.
3) Being an enthusiastic, optimistic soul.
Qualities are what make you your unique being. And I feel that’s what naturally attracts – or detracts – people to you. So, when you exhibit positive qualities, it communicates to people your type of character. You are a living, breathing, walking testimony and Bible. You may be the only Bible some people will ever peruse in their lifetime, so it’s crucial how you live and conduct yourself. Be a light. Be a direct reflection of Jesus Christ.
How do you want to be remembered by people? And, more importantly, how do you want God to remember you? Answering those thought-provoking questions honestly can serve as a driving and motivating force to be a person who exhibits positive qualities. Strive to be a great, positive role model/example/mentor for people – and for yourself.
The advice I would share with individuals who are early in their journey is to conduct a qualities’ audit and identify what your qualities are. If you do not exhibit any positive ones, intentionally work on that. Surround yourself with mentors who you can learn from. Adopt and cultivate a growth-mindset.
Also, I have some general advice. I recommend being a lifelong student, a sponge and continuously investing in every facet of yourself (personally, professionally, spiritually, mentally, physically, etc.). You are your greatest investment. I urge you and challenge you to learn something new every day and learn from everyone you encounter. I encourage you to be intentional and disciplined in every facet of your life.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes. Strategic partnerships and collaborations are valuable and something I’m always seeking. Naturally, I’m a people-person, so I am always willing, eager and receptive to partnering and/or collaborating with a wide array of people.
The ideal individuals I’m looking to connect, collaborate and/or partner with are people who are believers, driven, determined, growth-oriented, supportive, mentors, and connectors.
