Meet Kalen Olson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kalen Olson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kalen, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I discovered my purpose by learning to celebrate the role of the “black sheep” in my own life.

It all started when I was a little girl trying out for The Nutcracker. I had chosen a beautiful black rose-print sheer wrap skirt, black shoes, and a black leotard for the audition. I felt radiant, confident, and true to myself.

When I walked into the ballet studio, I immediately noticed something: every other girl was dressed in pink from head to toe. I was the only one in black. For a moment, I wondered if I had made a mistake, but my excitement for the tryouts carried me forward.

Like the other girls, I dreamed of being cast as a snowflake or candy cane—roles that were highly coveted. But when the parts were announced, I was assigned the role of the black sheep. Not only was I the only black sheep in the production, but it was also the only comedic role in the ballet.

At first, I wasn’t sure what to think, but I decided to embrace the part. I learned my choreography, prepared my fuzzy black sheep costume, and brought joy and excitement to every practice.

When the night of the performance arrived, I gave it my all. Feeling the warmth of the stage lights, the beauty of the costumes, and the rhythm of each step, I danced with my whole heart. To my surprise, the audience loved it. The next day, the local newspaper wrote that the black sheep had stolen the show.

Looking back, it wasn’t just the audience’s reaction that mattered—it was how I felt being true to myself. That joy, that spark of authenticity, was reflected right back to me.

As we grow older, it’s easy to lose touch with what makes us unique. We can get caught up in trying to fit in or be liked, forgetting that our greatest gift is the courage to embrace who we are.

Thankfully, I grew up in a family that encouraged artistic expression. My parents nurtured my creativity not only through ballet but also through drawing. My father and mother taught me how to make something beautiful out of nothing, how to erase and tweak, and how to add new lines until the image felt just right.

Drawing taught me more than art—it taught me how to live. It gave me an intuitive sense of what felt like a “yes” in my life and what felt like a “no.” Through the discipline of spatial awareness, I learned to navigate not only the blank space on paper but also the open canvas of my life.

When my father passed away from leukemia, I returned even more deeply to art to process my grief. This time, I connected with it on a deeper level. I realized that art is more than drawing or painting—it’s about how we express ourselves in every facet of our lives. It’s in the way we cook a meal, decorate a room, dress in the morning, or nurture our relationships.

Life itself can be a masterpiece when we infuse it with sacred beauty.

What I have learned is that sacred beauty isn’t just delicate or effortless—it’s rooted in strength. A ballerina’s graceful movements are only possible because of countless repetitions that build powerful legs. A tree’s vibrant blossoms depend on its deep roots and sturdy trunk.

This paradox of beauty and strength reminds us that true elegance often arises from resilience. The stronger our foundation—whether through discipline, practice, or life’s challenges—the more effortlessly we can express our authentic selves.

What helped me embrace my purpose was the realization that strength and beauty are not opposites; they are partners in creating something truly extraordinary – an invitation for those who are ready.

Today, my purpose is to help others rediscover their connection to beauty and authenticity. In a world that constantly pulls us in every direction, it’s easy to forget how to create a life that feels like home. My purpose is to remind people that beauty isn’t frivolous—it’s foundational. It’s a way to feel alive, to create meaning, and to come back to ourselves.

Whether through art, dance, or the simple act of doing the dishes with intention, sacred beauty can be expressed in every area of life. When we embrace the sacred beauty that lives within each of us, we awaken to the fullness of who we truly are.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’ve always believed that beauty is more than skin deep—it’s a sacred expression of who we are. My journey began as a little girl finding joy in art, ballet, and being unapologetically different. From my first role as the black sheep in The Nutcracker to the transformative power of drawing, I’ve learned that our individuality is what makes life beautiful.

Today, I focus on helping women reconnect with their authentic selves through my brand At Home With Kalen. Women work with me in my immersive offering, the 360 Sacred Beauty Makeover. Over four transformative days, I work with clients in their own homes to create a life that reflects their truest essence. We explore everything from cooking as an art form, to personal style, to home design that feels like a sanctuary. Together, we also incorporate ceremony, guided meditations, and follow-up coaching to ensure their transformations are lasting and profound.

What excites me most about this work is witnessing how women light up when they reclaim their joy and create beauty in their everyday lives. It’s not just about the aesthetic—it’s about the strength behind it. Being fully ourselves allows for more fulfilling connections in all of our lives.

Currently, I’m thrilled to offer this intimate experience to a select number of clients each year. For those unable to commit to the full in-home immersion, I also provide virtual transformation packages that deliver the same guidance in a flexible format.

Through this work, my mission is to inspire women to see every part of their life—how they dress, how they cook, how they style their home, how they connect with others—as an opportunity to express sacred beauty. It’s about living a life that feels deeply aligned and vibrantly alive.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Perspective
Perspective has the power to set us free from the places where we feel stuck. An art teacher once taught me that negative space—the space around and between objects—is more important than the objects themselves. Our eyes are trained to assume they know what they see in everyday, familiar objects, but that assumption often leads us astray when recreating those images in art. By focusing on the negative space, we approach with curiosity and openness, letting the image form in a way that feels authentic.

This lesson translates to how I view relationships and circumstances. When I approach familiar situations by being with what is instead of what I want the situation to be, it helps me open a doorway to creativity and reconnect with the aliveness of the moment. Perspective also helps me stop fighting against my life or perceived patterns/perceived limitations. Instead, it allows me to step back and view my life as a constellation—a beautiful masterpiece to embrace rather than a chaotic mess to fix. This shift in perspective often leads to breakthroughs in how to see myself and who I want to become.

Patience
Patience has been one of my greatest teachers. By nature, I’m not a very patient person—I’m naturally excited and eager, which can be both a blessing and a challenge! Learning patience continues to help me cultivate a better perspective and a deeper connection to the present moment. I practice patience through ceremony work, self-inquiry, and guided meditations, all of which ground me and remind me that growth is a process, not a race.

Resilience
When I want something badly enough, I stick with it until I find new doorways and possibilities. This determination—perhaps even stubbornness—has been a key driver in achieving my dreams, whether they take days, weeks, or years to come to fruition. Resilience teaches me to adapt, to persevere, and to keep going, even when the path isn’t clear. It’s a quality I deeply value, as it turns challenges into opportunities and keeps the flame of possibility stoked and alive.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

A Course In Miracles.

A Course In Miracles taught me that if I stick with it, I will learn and uncover that I am never a victim of my own life and I have power over how I perceive my circumstances.
