We were lucky to catch up with Kallan Daniel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kallan, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
This question was a challenging one to answer which is why I wanted to address it in the first place!
When I stepped into the world of photography, I, amongst most amateurs who have ever tried something new, did not feel confident in my work. I was overly critical and cared solely about what other’s thought of my imagery. Would they like it? Would it fit into the trendy Instagram aesthetic? I would mimic other photographers’ work in hopes that mine would be just as good but it never was. That’s when I learned the valuable lesson of self-advocacy. After many failed attempts of trying to be like other people, I gave my own mind and artistic eye the credit it deserved. I realized that I had something to offer that no one else did…my own unique style and originality. Once I discovered this life-changing way of thinking, I began to see value in my work. I was finally shooting for no one else’s approval other than my own. From that point forward, people started to see value in my work and that gave me more confidence to continue on the path of self-discovery as an artist.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a boudoir photographer from Fort Worth, TX, and I absolutely love it! It is an honor and a privilege to work with so many women in taking their confidence back through photography. Boudoir photography can be so transformative, helping women break free from self-deception and see their true beauty. There is nothing quite like seeing happy tears in my clients’ eyes whenever they see their images for the first time.
I also host a women’s luxury boudoir retreat, La Femme, every year where women from all walks of life can find internal healing through an all-inclusive getaway, female companionship, and boudoir photography. It’s truly something special.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Learn from people who are better than you 2. Find inspiration in everything (nature, people, architecture, food, etc.) There’s beauty in everything if you just look for it,
3. Never give up on yourself. Just keep going!
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to collaborate with any and all women-owned businesses! Lingerie/ swimsuit brands, studios/ hotels, other boudoir photographers, videographers. The sky is the limit! Feel free to email me at [email protected] or inquire through my website at www.kallanbri.com
